My 15 year old daughter has a data allowance of 6GB and I have made sure the data cap is turned on .To my surprise, I received a bill higher than normal stating that extra data was used to the tune of £35. When I contacted via chat, I was informed that the data cap is on but it does not stop at 6GB, there is an allowance of up to £50 before it cuts off. I want it to cut off at 6GB but was told that they cannot do this as they have rules to follow. Has anyone else experienced this?

Hi @ljlaw44
Ive not seen another post similar to yours.
One way of restricting usage is to keep an eye on myvodafone and then if necessary place a data bar via myvodafone.
I'll take a look in the T&C's to see what they say about the cap.

From What-are-data-caps.
"Data caps are designed to help you avoid exceeding your monthly data allowance. When you switch on a data cap, you’ll be prevented from using data once you’ve reached the limit of your monthly allowance. This cap will apply on data usage in the UK and in our Roam-free and Roam-further destinations "
Id suggest to ringing customer service on 191.

Don't forget that most smartphones will also have a built in data monitor which will also stop data being used at a certain level, there are also apps that do the same thing.

True, but a cap is a cap and, if it doesn't operate when the limit is reached, it's useless. I sincerely hope @ljlaw44 has been misinformed, but I'd also like to know how the cap can fail (afaik this is a one-off occurrence), assuming it's correctly in place - and it sounds as though it is.
I'd go back to customer services and raise a query. However, if you don't get a satisfactory response - and that would deal with both the current situation and going forward - post back here and the forum team will be able to take a look. This needs to be sorted properly.
Edited to add: Android security now prevents third party apps controlling data. The built-in facility will, but is easily circumvented by the phone's user, of course.
