Internet speed dropping during peak hours

Ever since we bought Vodafone internet, the speeds during peak hours are almost un usable. When it is not peak hours (Midnight-11am) the speed is fine. Anything other than that, I start seeing download speeds of anywhere from 1 to 3 mbps when its over 30mbps when working correctly. I phoned the helpline about this and they said to use a wifi booster, I haven't tried that yet (not wanting to spend money on something that might not work) but I don't understand how that would fix a peak hour issue. As a gamer, I can't play with others due to this.

I'm sorry to hear you're having issues  at peak times @jferguson95.

Have you got an old router still lying about that you could try?

I'd like to see if you're having router issues before we dig deeper.
