I'm using mobile broadband on a Dell (Vista) with a built in broadband card and thier Control Point connection manager.
I've noticed that it normaly connects with a 10.xxx.xxx.xx ip address but switches to a 169.xxx.xxx.xxx number every hour or so. When it switches to the 169 address I loose connectivity and only by resetting the connection or re-booting the PC can I get it back to a 10. number and working again.
Can anyone tell me what's happening, why it changes and why it stops working?
Thanks,
Tim

Matty/bacupian,
Thanks for your responses.
I get no indication of a disconnection. I normally notice as Outlook reports a failure to my exchange server. Dell connection manager shows connected but the ip address has changed to 169. (It's good to know that this is a default address.) I try disconnecting and re-connecting but this doesn't normally help. I've also tried ipconfig /release or /renew but this doesn't work either (obvious if I've lost the connection).
This is a very new laptop and I've upgraded all drivers etc to the latest spec.
Maybe I'm just loosing the signal. I thought having a built in modem with a larger aerial would be better than a dongle so paid the extra.
Post code is EC2N 1DB, Central London; laptop is by the window.
