Mobile Broadband Payg

I have very recently purchased a Mobile Broadband Dongle from Tesco which included a 1GB of usage which can last up to 270 days before needing to be topped up again, very useful for occasional use. I have read somewhere that top ups now only last 30 days and the 270 day option is no longer available, is this correct?

I had to send a couple of e-mails with all my personal details in order to get a not very clear answer! Why they could not give me the answer just with the mobile broadband number I don't know. It seems that if you purchased a dongle on the old terms that remains for the life of the dongle. So every time you renew you get 1GB for £15 and it lasts up to 270 days. Clearly the new system is a backward step for many consumers who are light users and the additional 2GB which you now get with the 30 day top-up is of little recompense. Perhaps what Vodafone should think about is a daily/weekly top-up at a reasonable price.

Thanks - I am trying to get it all working, but so far the software is giving me issues (new laptop installation, new version of software, for some reason it will not connect). I have topped up £15 anyway, so am assuming I have been given 1GB...will find that out when I finally get this thing connected.

I agree on your sentiments - I am a heavy net user, but purely need the dongle for receiving email on the odd occasion an important one comes through and I am not connected otherwise (ie at home / office). Hence £15 for 270 days for that privelege is completely worthwhile. £15 for 30 days is not.

Best way to describe all the answers VF has given is vague and murky, thank goodness for the power of collaboration though!

I was wondering if someone from Voda could drop me a PM/email. I have IMEI and SIM number from one of these dongles from Tesco, wanted to double check it is the correct deal (non 30 day expirey one!).

It is for a present, so don't want to open to check, will take it back before opening if it is wrong

Cheers!

Hi all, i'm new on here but really concerned now as I just gave one of these yesterday for a present for my mum as she is only going to have low usage! Whats the score if the deal has changed why are Tesco still selling and clearly advertising these as 270 days? I can get the info off the dongle but can someone tell me if i'm on the right deal?

I only found this forum after checking I had got an ok deal and now looks like I might have been well stiched, for this price on 30 days I could have signed here up to a line rental package...

I can confirm that as of 26th December, the Top Up and Go service changed.
There is a 30 day expiry on the top ups, from then on.
Also now instead of getting 1GB of data for £15, you'll now be getting 3GB of data for the same price.

So to clarify - I have a pre-pay mobile broadband from before 26th December (£15 for 1Gb but no expiry) and have used about half the credit so far. When this credit runs out and I top-up another £15 will that appear as 1Gb (no expiry) or 3Gb (30 days only)?

Hi Barkingmad

My apologies for the confusion this has caused allow me to clear this up for you :D

The post you have quoted from MattyD is correct however this package is only available for our new PAYG USB dongles.

So if your USB dongle was purchased before the 26th December then you will still stay on the same package as you are currently on so i.e. you will top up £15 and get 1GB allowance and no expiry :D

I trust this will clear the matter up for you however if you do require any further information then let us know and we'll be in touch.

Thanks
Matthew

Hi all! I too have just bought a TopUp and Go USB Modem from Tesco Direct advertised as stated in previous posts, "... 1Gb straightaway with 270 days to use it in before you need to top up again." The box is printed with "TopUp and Go Mobile Broadband - 1Gb".

Can someone from Vodafone please email me to check that this modem isn't on the new plan where remaining credit expires after 30 days? I haven't yet opened the box in case I want to return it, but have the IMEI and SIM numbers from the packaging.

Thanks very much!

Mal :)
