Hi JKE

Thanks for your post here. I can appreciate how frustrating this must be for you.

At least we know the modem works so we know its just the software that is causing this issue.

Can you tell me what version of the software you are currently running (On you Windows 7 machine) and also tell me what version is running on your older machine?

Have you tried this one? Vodafone Mobile Connect

Please let me know and we'll be happy to help you further

Thanks

Wayne

Many people reported problems with Huawei modems and Vista/Win7 64bit on their own site with little help.

However if you Google the problem you will find articles like the one here for an ex-Orange modem

If you explore the software in the dongle rather than letting it run (turn off autoplay) you will find two setup .exe programs, one for 32 and one for 64. Try playing around with the latter as in the link above, and use the latest Huawei generic connection software, heeding the advice about APN and login as well

By the way, blue flashing light means only the modem has power and is detecting a signal. You will get t hat if you connect it to a USB charger (Don't try it!) But doesn't mean the OS is talking to the modem.

Hi Wayne

I'm currently running the latest version for the UK 9.4.6.20529. I tried to install 9.4.4 but it didn't like it. The version that runs ok on my old laptop (Windows XP) is 9.3.6.12095, but I can't find it to download and assume it doesn't work on a Windows 7 laptop.

Sorry Jarviser, you've lost me completely now. Not sure what you mean about playing around with it, but then suggest another software.

The link you show above is not for my USB stick or OS and I dont understand what it tells me to do anyway!

I'm annoyed that vodafone don't support their old USBs with new OS's and I have to spend silly amounts of time trying to play around with all of this, when I don't have a great understanding of software clashes. Thanks for trying to help me though, I will wait for Wayne or Trev to come back to me

Well, this is interesting. I deleted all vodafone software and as a last resort, tried the original software that came with the USB (which didn't work on my old laptop) and it's connected! It's a rubbish connection, but it's working.

So, not sure why it's working, but it is. Just hope no Windows upgrades knock it out again! Thanks for all your help guys, just hope I haven't spoken too soon!

I have the same problem. I bought a new lap top with windows 7 and installed my K3565 dongle, when i try to connect i get ras error code 628. I have tried the APN tips above but the ras error code persists. any ideas in simple language as i am not very computer literate! will buying a newer dongle solve the problem? I have version : 9.3.5.11690 Huawei

Hi

Obviously, I'm no expert, but I would first try the latest version of software, as yours is even older than my oldest version. Otherwise, wait and see what the admins say

The k3565 and the E160x are essentially the same Huawei device. I assumed your Win7 was 64 bit like the originator's question.

The software in the second link is the latest generic connection software for all Huawei dongles which you can try instead of VMC, not the driver installation software in the dongle itself, so the second suggestion was intended to supplement the first suggestion.

Hey Guys,

These modems are supported on windows 7 however it may be worth looking at generic connect software or trying an older version of VMC.

Stebenson666, can you confirm that this is the software that came with your modem? also what APN are you using and are you on PAYT or contract?
