No Network With Vodafone Mobile Broadband In Scotland

poor1
4: Newbie
About six weeks ago I was on holiday in Ullapool Scotland with my laptop and Vodafone mobile broadband and was unable to make any connection over a period of several days.. I appreciate the Ullapool is a marginal area, but there was a full signal on my Vodafone Mobile phone. A friend with a camper van who tours the UK using a mobile broadband on a lesser network has no problem at all in getting a connection.

I posted on this forum, received a response from Vodafone that it would be investigated. Received a text from Vodafone saying it was being investigated. Then received a text saying the problem had been resolved. That was not much use to me because

a) I had not been able to use the laptop

b) B) I was unaware of what the problem was for future reference.

I telephoned Vodafone 191 with the reference number and I was passed from one operator to another and none of them had a clue and eventually gave up.

I searched for the post on the forum and it seems to have been removed. I would be grateful if I could be given a definitive answer please. This similar to a roaming problem I had in Kenya a couple of months ago with my mobile phone which would not pick up a local network. dUE TO THE GOOD SERVICES OF THE vODAFONE PEOPLE ON THIS FORUM THIS WAS EVENTAULLY RESOLVED TOWARDS THE END OF THE TIME i WAS IN kENYA BECAUSE i HAD ACCESS TO A computer, but it was not much help whilst i was there because i culd not use it.

i would be grateful if i could have a definitive anser to the problem of using the mobile broadband in ullapool.

Hi poor1

I'm sorry that you've not had the response to your questions before now.

I've had a look at the postcode and the area's surrounding Ullapool.

I can confirm that at the moment there doesn't seem to be a problem currently with any of the sites.

I can appreciate that when you where originally there, you didn't have this luxury.

As you've said yourself the area is pretty remote and there is no 3G signal at all.

This would mean that your device would have been trying to connect to the GSM part of the network.

Because of this the performace of the device would be greatly reduced.

Judging from your earlier posts there was a problem with the network while you there.

In my experience when there is a limited signal in a particular, the phone tend to pick the network up better than a dongle.

This would explain why you where getting a signal on your phone and not the broadband device.

I trust this answers your question, but if not please don't hesitate to get back in touch.

Thanks :)
