Solution

Still Having Trouble Sending Emails

pmac
Not applicable
Hi All
I have got a Vodafone PAYG dongle, that receives emails fine and will go on the net fine, but it won't send emails. I put up a post on here, and was advised to set my out going server to send.vodafone.net , which worked fine for a while, but now has stopped working, I put that up as a post and was advised to use my existing smtp settings, with authetication turned on, but this still didn't work.
I have now read on here that you can use vodafone360, to send emails. I have signed up to 360, and have recieved an authorisation sms, I also recieved an email asking me to confirm my email address, which I have done, but i did not recieve any further emails confirming that all was ok. I set my out going server to smtp.360.com and to smtp.vodafone360.com and tried to send an email, but neither settings worked. Can sombody please tell me the exact settings (in idiots form) I need to enter to get the email to work correctly>, as this is starting to drive me mad now.
Many Thanks
pmac.

Email clients I use all seem to have different terminology for same setup.

On Evolution I have following that worked ok when checked last week.

server type: smtp
server: smtp.360.com
Use secure connection: SSL encryption
Authentication
Type: PLAIN
Username: my 360.com username

First email sent then requires 360.com password and is remembered after that. Other
sytems ask for password during setup.

On other setups server type might need to be set to smtps if that's an option.

All test email so far has had a low or zero spam score so looks good.

I only have the account in case my regular server or landline broadband ISP are down.

I have just bought a PAYG dongle and having the same problems sending emails, so hope it is OK to add to this thread.

A bit of background: I have two main e mail addresses which I use at home connected to my ISP (NTLworld). I am simply looking for the correct smtp server data to enter into my mail prog to send e mails from these two accounts when I am using the Vodafone dongle away from home. I have trawled the internet for an answer and find a lot of frustrated people, and the only answer seems to be to create a special vodafone 360 email account.

I really don't want a special e mail address just to use with the Vodafone dongle. I want to use my existing accounts. I also have T-Mobile and O2 dongles and have had no problem simply adding their smtp servers to my e mail prog and selecting that smtp when sending e mail from my existing accounts when using their dongles.

Hoping very much there is an answer.

Thanks

After reading elsewhere that if I create a 360 account I can access the 360 server but still use my existing email addresses I have tried to create an account. This has failed because there is no option to enter a dongle in the phone model section, so my application is rejected.

Any advice

Thanks

SUCCESS!

I have achieved what I set out to do, ie sending email from my existing e mail account using the smtp.360.com server.

It wasn't easy because of the gaps in the information.

Key missing info steps for the benefit of others:

1.To create the 360 account I selected a phone model at random, but entered my dongle phone number. The phone number verification message is sent to Vodafone Broadband Manager programme on the laptop, so make sure you are connected with your dongle.

2.The full settings data I entered into my e mail prog came from a post in another section of these forums…

smtp.360.com
Use SSL
Port 465
360 account username and password

All good for now!

Hi All
Thanks for all your help, I have tried everything you have suggested, but still no luck, the best I can get is when I enter all the data into my settings and try to send an email, the username and pass box pops up, I then enter my password and click, the box dissapears, and then comes straight back, and will not send the email.
You also mention using SSL, which my system doesn't have, I have SPA, is this the same thing?
I am using outlook on Vista, and my settings are as follows

Your Name
Your Email Address

Server Info
Incoming Mail Server
Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP)

Login Info
User Name
Password
Remember Password Y/N

Require Logon Using Secure Password Authentication SPA Y/N

Outgoing Server
My Outgoing Server SMTP Requires Authentication Y/N
Log In Using Same Settings As Incomming Mail Sever Y/N
Log In Using
User Name
Pasword Y/N

Require Secure Password Authentication SPA Y/N

Log On To Incoming Mail Server Before Sending Mail Y/N

I am getting really fed up with this now, I only want to send Emails while I am working away from home, any help gratefully recieved. If this is going to drag on like this is it worth getting another dongle like 02 or T mobile, can any one reccomend a good one that sends emails?

Many Thanks
pmac.

I am on a Mac so can't help with the SPA question. In your situation I would just try all permutations...keep careful notes about what you've tried and be systematic. Frustrating, but I think the solution is in there somewhere...shouldn't be like this.

You could try using the free mail app Thunderbird, which is waht I am using on my macs and is cross platform.

Since my posts above I have found that send.vodafone.net is also working though it seems this may be being phased out in favour of 360.

The usage I make of mobile broadband (infrequent, many different locations) makes PAYG dongles the ideal solution, and since they don't cost much to buy I have Vodafone, O2 and T-Mobile, so that I can use the best signal/speed dongle for where I am. I found Vodafone the easiest to get started with (everything compatible and connected straightaway). The other two had issues with latest Mac OS and had to update firmware etc. However, both T-Mobile and O2 email sending were extremely easy to set up.

Sorry, I've no access to Vista either and no idea what SPA is (secure password authentication?
that could well be SSL). Really these settings for different platforms should be detailed on 360.com
site (they might be).

I can't really understand your settings:

Server Info
Incoming Mail Server
Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP)

Are these below for incoming, if so probably not needed unless using 360.com for this.
Login Info
User Name
Password
Remember Password Y/N

Require Logon Using Secure Password Authentication SPA Y/N = Y (if in server settings)

Outgoing Server
My Outgoing Server SMTP Requires Authentication Y/N = Y
Log In Using Same Settings As Incomming Mail Sever Y/N = N (probably)
Log In Using
User Name = your 360.com username
Pasword Y/N = Y?

Require Secure Password Authentication SPA Y/N = Y?

Log On To Incoming Mail Server Before Sending Mail Y/N = N?

That's best I can do

Hello Pmac

Thanks for continuing to post your progress.

The issue here seems to be that of settings, although you seem to have everything correctly in place, :(

They should be as follows:

smtp.360.com
Use SSL
Port 465
360 account username and password

We may be hitting a stumbling block where the system requires authentication, as long as the same email has been set up on your 360 account (www.360.com) then this should work, again Access to a Vista machine is proving difficult.

Require Secure Password Authentication SPA Y/N = try no for this!

My Outgoing Server SMTP Requires Authentication Y/N = also try no

Very tricky situation indeed, but we'll continue to help as much as we can.

Thanks
