Sure Signal Box burnt out

Yesterday the power tripped out on our downstairs sockets and the fault was traced to our Sure Signal V3 box.  My husband unplugged it and plugged it back in, but there was no power. But could smell a burnt smell, we carefully took the screws out and opened the unit and see the attached photos of what we found.

As you can see this could of caused a fire, fortunately we were at home at the time. We have three phones on contract with Vodafone which have all been renewed recently for another 2 years.  We rely on the Sure Signal as Vodafone signal in our area is poor.  Has anyone had issues like this?  Its really poor....

Hi @wendfox67

Yes there has been similar incidents.

Please Note : If the Sure Signal displays ANY signs of internal failure then unplug it straightaway and contact Vodafone Customer Services on 191 or Live Chat.

You're welcome.

Sometimes a person has to leave the Chat window open for when a Live Chat becomes available and is best accessed via a Computer.

When you speak to them be clear on what's happened and that you require a replacement.

The SS has a two year manufacturing warranty. Even if that has expired I would hope they'll look after you any.

You could ring them or pop into a Vodafone store for help and advice if one is local and convenient.

I'm glad everyone is Ok.

You're wasting your time phoning or visiting a shop as they will turn you away.

Your best option is to head over to http://forum.vodafone.co.uk/t5/Vodafone-Sure-Signal/Suresignal-V3-Overheated-Blew-Up-Exploded-Hot-Bu...

Put a posting there with details and pictures at the end and wait for a reply from Vodafone. They are replacing any unit burnt out regardless of warranty.

At the end of my thread you will see a link to BBC Watchdog, open the page to contact them and send in an email (don't use their form) with pictures attached, please ensure you send this email.

Shops are in denial as is phone support so post on my link and wait but be warned there may be a delay as stocks are currently limited.

Wendfox:

Ensure you also report this to BBC Watchdog via the links in my post that escaled this issue.

Until I got involved in May, Vodafone refused any support for out of warranty units, which is now been regraded to replacement regardless which is a start.

Next stage is pushing for recall and this can only happen if you report yours before someone gets hurt.

I also suggest reporting to Trading Standards on 0345 4040506 with the full story although Watchdog is more important.

Exactly the same problem last weekend. Heard a loud bang with strong smell of burning, sure enough it was my suresignal box V3 which had tripped the mains circuit breaker in the kitchen. The inside of the box was just black burnt out circuits

I am now on my third box, they only last for 18-24 months at best and run very hot. Clearly this equipment is poorly manufactured and raises serious issues over safety, especially a fire hazzard.  BUT with no mobile signal anywhere near the house and we are paying for 5 monthly service plans, vodafone clearly on a profit winner! Having the audacity to charge for these boxes just adds to the insult! Just collected my replacement box today and now will have to wait for replacement to sync.
