On 1st Feb I am moving from BT to SKY broadband. I have a V2 Sure Signal box that I have had from new and it has always worked perfectly.....However, I am really worried that it will stop working when I transfer to SKY. I am 62 years old and not technically minded at all, so desperate for advice

There should be no problem moving your suresignal between internet providers.

At most you may need to reset the suresignal, this is done by holding the reset button for 30 seconds... then unplug it whilst keeping reset pressed, wait for 30 seconds... then plug it back in, keeping reset pressed until all the lights on the sure signal flash.

There were issues in the past where Sky Broadband routers would not let the Suresignal connect correctly to the mobile network, and caused headaches.  As far as I am aware these are now fixed so should work out of the box (there were also issues with some models of the BT Home Hub - but as yours worked then no problem there)

Best thing to do is get your sky internet service up and running, plug your suresignal in, reset it, and see how it looks in the morning.

If it's working then great.

If it does not work then cross the bridge at that point, rather than trying to second guess what may or may not work :Smiling:

Hope it all goes smoothly for you :Smiling:

Hi @PrueBJones

May I extend a warm welcome to the eforum.

The Sure Signal works by connecting to Wifi signal so it should just pick up the new wifi signal from your new ISP Providers Router.

If you get stuck then please do let us here or Customer services know. Support is always on hand.

No version of the Sure Signal has a Wifi connection facility,

only a ethernet connection directly to the router.

So PrueBjones is right to be concerned, although the forum and/or customer sevices will be able to assist if it doesn't work through the new router.

Regards,

Mike.

Thanks for the replies. As I mentioned earlier my Sure Signal box has worked for years with my BT Home Hub, via ethernet cable, but I'm worried that attaching it to a new provider's hub will mess with the Sure Signal's settings. My neighbour's whole family also get their 3G signal from my Sure Signal box as the signal in our village is awful....with every mobile network....so I don't want them to lose their 3G either.
I've read earlier posts about speed tests, pings etc but I haven't got a clue what any of that means.

Hi PrueBJones,

There is no real reason to believe that it won't work, but I fully understand your concern.

I don't know how many ethernet ports you are using at the moment, but just check that you will have enough on the Sky router, usually they have 4 ports, but some have only 2.

But don't worry about it not working and remember not to rush it............ Sure Signals sometimes take a few hours even overnight to fully connect.

Even if you do have a problem, there is no reason why you shouldn't take your Sure Signal to a neighbours house and plug it in to their router.

Just a final point....... As you've had your Sure Signal for a few years, it might be worthwhile obtaining a spare power supply as they do seem to give problems after about 4-5 years.

They can be obtained from Amazon or Ebay and cost around £10 -12 inc. delivery

Good luck,

Mike.

Hi Ashley. Thanks for your reply but the info you provided is way too technical for me to understand

Cineriv, thanks for your reply. Unfortunately my neighbour doesn't have broadband which is why their houshold's mobile phones have been registered on my Sure Signal box.

I just know this is going to be a nightmare.....lol, but at least I have the forum now 😀
