Solution

Sure Signal v3 stops working mid call

Hi there,

I'm having problems with my VSS3 with a couple of issues that may/may not be related!?

It has occaisionally stopped working with the power light flashing and the internet light being on (solid). This however isn't the main problem...

...the main issue is that it seems to be fine connected but when on a call, it will stop working and reboot itself causing the call to drop. Sometime it will reboot itself successfully however, more often than not, it will 'lock out' with no lights on. The only way it will start working again is to unplug and replug it.

Hi illuminatedesig,

This is a strange issue. Nothing on your traceroute stands out, this all looks perfectly fine.

Does this happen on every call? Are you able to try it on a different Internet connection(friend/family member) so that we can rule out a fault with the device itself?

Let me know how you get on,

Kay

Hi Kay,

It doesn't necessarily happen on every call - I'll see if I can make it happen on a different connection.

I've come to it this morning to find it with a steady orange internet light and flashing power...before I add my name to the thread for this fault, is there a possible connection between my 2 problems?

Thanks!

Robin

Hi illuminatedesig

The light sequence would indicate a different fault.

I have checked and it would appear you've been connecting since posting, are you still having difficulties?

Morning!

You're correct, I was connected during Thursday but have come to the unit this morning and it's showing the same (solid interenet and flashing power)...

I look forward to hearing from you with (hopefully?) a solution??

Thanks!

Hi illuminatedesig,

When this is happening are you noticing the unit getting hotter than normal?

Please could you do a full reset which will then pull the latest firmware down?

  • Find the button on the base of the unit next to the Ethernet ports
  • Press and hold the button for approximately 30 seconds
  • Once the lights come back on, release the button
  • The Sure Signal will come online in around one hour

If it’s getting hotter than normal and the reset doesn’t fix this, you’d need to send it in for repair.

Thanks,

Gemma

Thanks - I've held the reset button but it didn't do anything until I let it go (I held for about a minute) - it's now resetting/booting so I'll let you know what happens!? It does run warm but not necessarily hot, the problem is that when it fails, I'm not normally near it...or don't notice it for a while??!

...will keep you posted.

Many thanks!

illuminatedesig,

I'm afraid what you are experiencing is perfectly normal because there is a design fault with the V3 Sure Signal. I must have been through at least five V3 units and each one disconnected/reconnected randomly...could be 5 times each day or just once every few days. Guess what? I switched to a V2 unit and just like magic, the disconnections disappeared. Nothing wrong with my internet connection (17 meg down, 1 meg up) or ping times (20 ms). The sad thing is Vodafone refuse to admit there is an issue with the V3 because as it works some/most of the time, Vodafone class this as 'fit for purpose'. Your best bet is to flog your V3 on fleabay to some poor sucker and buy a V2 instead.

Thanks psychopomp1,

I'll keep watch on it...it's behaving currently but go to plan 'B' if it kicks up again!

Thanks for the support and advice!
