Solution

Sure signal problem

Hello,

I have to use a Sure Signal as the signal here is poor.  I set it up, but each time I go away from home I turn it off to save energy (and for safety).  When I am away I get (presumably automated) text messages in the middle of the night from Voda informing me "Your Sure Signal has moved".  When I get back home I turn it back on but it then doesn't work and the automated text messages continue to arrive on a daily (or should I say middle of the nightly) basis.

How can I fix this?  I am told by someone much clever than me that each time I turn it back on and it attempts to connect with my router it is assigned a new IP address by the router and hence it doesn't establish a connection, which triggers the auto messages.

I'm afraid I'm lost with this explanation.  Can anyone help?

Hi there vanessacole,

Thanks for posting.

In Layman's terms, each time you switch your router back on, your internet provider gives it a new address, almost like you've moved house.

Essentially, when the Sure Signal gets the new address, the system thinks you've moved and we need to keep our database up to date for the emergency services.

All you need to do is log in to your Sure Signal dashboard and update the postcode to ST1 5GP for 5 minutes then change it back again.

Cheers,

LeeH

Hi LeeH,

Thanks for your response.  I now have the sure signal registered again to this address and the annoying texts from Voda in the middle of the night have stopped.  Cheers for that!  Now the problem is that I can't use my sure signal to text.  My phone just tells me the text has failed, although it seems I have plenty of signal.

I've tried going into 'Manage your Sure Signal' from my account and notice I am not listed as a user.  Is that why I can't text out?  I've tried adding myself but it won't let me.  Should I de-register the device and start again?

From all the other cries for help on the e-forum these sure signals seem to be a lot of trouble.  I wouldn't mind but I had to buy the thing because the Voda signal is virtually non-existant here.  It's not even as though I live out in the sticks.  I live in a town.  Voda is becoming more hassle than it's worth.  My husband is with Tescomobile and his phone works fine.  Unless I can sort this out I really have to consider migrating to another service provider. It's a shame.  I've been with Voda for more than twenty years.  If they can't/won't provide a decent signal here the least they could have done was to provide a sure signal for free!

Hi vanessacole,

I’m sorry to see you’re still having problems with this.

You do need to be a registered user in order for this to work.

What happens when you try to register your number? Do you get any error messages?

Thanks,

Jenny

Hi Jenny,

Yes, when I try to register my own number on the Sure Signal I get a message telling me the number I have tried to enter is invalid.  It says it has to be a Vodafone number beginning in 07, which of course it is (on both counts).

Incidentally, now when I try to use my phone to make a call, nine times out of ten it doesn't work.  I get an error message on the phone saying "Not registered on network". Occasionally it does work properly.

As far as I know this only happens at home using the Sure Signal.  I'm pretty sure my phone is ok away from home when I can use the network directly.

Vanessa

Hi Vanessa,

We’ll need to look into this to see what’s happening.

See how to get in touch with us here.

When you get in touch, please include your Sure Signal serial number.

Thanks,

Andrew
