V3 Problems (Power flashing & solid Amber Service light)

Hambroski
4: Newbie

Please  note that this is a different problem to the one raised for a different serial number v3 unit.

I am trying to install 40124108412 and 40124107836 at PE31 8AE.

The FAQ does not appear to be relevant due to not covering v3 and also not covering the symptom.

I previously had a v1 box 21196758813 working here fine.

On both V3s I get a flashing red and a solid amber on the service light. No sign of internet and user lights.

I have amended the router to allow port access for:

Port 50 - TCP/IP
Port 4500 - UDP
Port 500 - UDP
Port 123 - UDP

Port 8 - TCP/IP

Port 1723 (BT Customers only) - TCP/UDP

My IP Address is:86.133.19.212

Speednet - 38ms Download 6.8mbps Upload 0.34mbps

Pingtest - 0% lost, Ping 37ms, Jitter 9ms

I have put one in the DMZ but this makes no difference.

Traceroute via the router shows:

traceroute to 212.183.133.177, 30 hops max

  1  217.47.93.250         40 ms

Hi Nikon,

I can see that the re-sync from yesterday went through OK at 17:47 but as of yet there has still not been a connection made.

Would you be able to test the unit on a different internet connection (ISP) to rule out faulty equipment?

James

I have been away for a few days and come back and my suresignal (new on v3) has the following symptions:

Flashing Red Light

Orange Internet Light, nothing else

I have reset it, re-booted my router and it tries to connect  - get solid red light and the while slow flashing internet light then it turns orange and with the power light flashing and stays that way.

It has been working perfectly for  couple of weeks?

Any ideas?

Please ignore previous post - after reseting several times all the lights went off for about 1/2 hour, thought it was dead, but just looked at it and its up and running again!!

Life of its own!

Hi N_R,

Thanks for coming back to us and I'm glad this is back up and running for you now.  When you perform a reset it can take up to 24 hours for it to connect back on the network.

Hambroski,

A flashing power light and a stable service light means that your connection is failing to make a connection with our network.  It suggests that there is an issue with the connection in some way, usually caused by your customers ISP network settings or a network issue that they're experiencing.  Can you check your internet connection and make sure it's plugged in securely?  I'd recommend contacting your ISP to see if there's anything from their end stopping the connection.

Thanks,

Phil

Hi there,

I have had my Vodafone Sure Signal V3 for just over a week now and I have had some issues with it but when it works it's great. My problem is I have this working fine on a DLink router but I have recently just bought a new router a Netgear N600 (DGND3700v2). I have connected the router up and can get onto the internet no problem but the sure signal keeps showing an error and wont connect. The error i am getting is flashing power light and a solid amber service light. Plug my old router back in (DLINK) and it works straight away.

On my new router the Netgear (DGND3700v2) I have setup the portforwarding and when I do a tracert on 212.183.133.177 it connects and reports back:

What I have noticed is when I have the sure signal connected to the DLINK and switch it on I get the white internet symbol and then it connects but when it's connected to the new router the Netgear as soon as I switch the sure signal V3 on it shows a solid power light then after a few seconds it displays the amber orange service light and flashing power light. No sign of the flashing white internet symbol.

I have currently replugged back in my Dlink router so I can get signal but can you possibly shed some light as to what the problem may be.

Thanks

Hi there Heders08,

Thanks for your post.

The fact the VSS works when you connect it to your old router suggests this is a setup issue and not a VSS issue. In this case you will need to speak to the router manufacturer as we're not accredited in this field.

Cheers,

Hi Phil,

The internet connection is fine. It is plugged in and the pass through cable is working fine. I have not changed any of the settings on the router and the sure signal service is working fine on one box and not the other. Is there a different network setting that needs to be applied to have 2 sure signals on the same network. I guess you can't port forward the same ports to 2 different devices? You also seem to only be able to put 1 in the DMZ.

Thanks,

Hi there Hambroski,

Thanks for confirming.

I've checked again and can see the now troublesome VSS connected on the 16th to our servers.

Would it be possible for you to try it on another connection to see if you face the same issue?

Cheers,

LeeH

If you don't mind me adding to this thread - i have identical problems - same router Netgear DGND3700v2.

My back story is that i had a V1 VSS running for two years on a different router - router broke - replaced with the Netgear and it all worked fine. Then we got new phones and had to reset the VSS - it's not worked since. Got a replacement through from vodafone, a V3 (the one with the intergrated plug socket) and all it's ever given me is a flashing power light and a steady amber service light - you get a minute of steady red power light before this happens. Been through every hoop with vodafone - registering, de-registering, resetting and port forwarding but nothing changed - so they sent me out another one - exactly the same. This time vodafone suggest trying it in another router, so i pop round a neighbours house, plug it in and within a minute i have a steady power light and softly pulsing silver internet light. That sort of points the finger at the router.

I've been through the port forwarding with my ISP a couple of times and it all checks out. No internet problems, in fact since getting this router my connection has greatly improved. I've followed this thread with no joy - http://forum.vodafone.co.uk/t5/Vodafone-Sure-Signal/VSS-working-with-Netgear-DGND3700v2/m-p/1220300#... although it's not been 24 hours yet since i adjusted the settings. There is definitely something going on here with this router and as i got this highly recommended from PC World i imagine you're going to see a lot more of them :Smiling:

It's been two weeks now of messing about - my wife is going bonkers about the loss of text messaging and we're a few days from Christmas. If anyone out there can help i would greatly appreciate it! I could replace the router but it's a good one, expensive, i run a business from here and it works brilliantly.

Serial - 40123613263

Hi robinv2,

Thanks for your post here.

To be honest it does sound like a configuration issue with your router however, from checking the Sure Signal serial number I can see that it has never connected to the server to establish a connection.

This issue can be down to a number of things including setup, ports or even compatibility.

The particular light sequence that you mention (Flashing Power light with Solid service light) usually means that the Sure Signal can’t connect to the server due to a block in place by the router or ISP.

This will normally be some kind of firewall from within the router configuration.

So we can get an idea of exactly how things are set up please can you let me know the following details;

What ports have you forwarded?

What IP address are these forwarded to?

Please can you also paste the results from a traceroute in your reply?

VSS Traceroute command

On a PC :

Click on Start  and select Run

Type CMD into the Run box and press enter/click ok

A black box will appear.

In this box type tracert 212.183.133.177    press Enter

Paste the output of this command into your reply.
