This thread has been created to discuss and troubleshoot the version 3 Sure Signal when the light sequence is as follows:

  • Power: Flashing
  • Internet: Off
  • In Service: Solid Orange
  • In Use: Solid Orange

Cause

This light sequence indicates the Sure Signal's not active and it has been unable to authenticate on the Vodafone network

Troubleshooting

Please restart your Sure Signal. If the symptoms continue please add the following details to this thread:

  • Your speed test results from here
  • Your ping test results from here
  • Your external IP address from here
  • Your Sure Signal serial number
  • The results of a traceroute

Traceroute command:

On a PC:

  1. Click on Start and select Run
  2. Type CMD into the Run box and press enter/click ok
  3. A black box will appear
  4. In this box type tracert 212.183.133.177 press Enter
  5. Paste the output of this command into your reply

On a Mac:

  1. Open Terminal (Applications, Utilities)
  2. Type 'traceroute 212.183.133.177'
  3. Press Enter

This will help us get the quickest possible resolution for you.

Thanks

LeeH

Hi IanDaviesGMGB,

Your Sure Signal hasn't updated with us in over 10 days so I've forced a resynch - can you reset the box and let me know if this fixes it?

barker950 - It's great you're up and running now :smileyhappy:

markporter - everything looks ok at this end, we can't check your ports though.

You've mentiond changing ISP in an earlier post, who have you moved to?

cupcakeangel - your Sure Signal hasn't updated with us since you deregistered and reregistered in April. Can you test this on a different broadband connection and let me know how you get on?

Paul

I have checked with te branch and the sure signal was still showing the same lights.

we have restarted the VSS AGAIN and we are still seeing the same lights.

Any update on if the traffic we were seeing dropped by our firewall (logs inclued in my last post) has anythign to do with the VSS not connecting?

Hi IanDaviesGMGB,

Thanks for getting back to us.

It is likely that the drops re related to the Sure Signal not connecting.

If it is dropping the connection on the ports then it will not allow a VPN connection to be made.

I’m not sure if this is something within the firewall stopping the connection or possibly the data packets may be lost during transfer if the MTU is not set to 1500.

This is something that would be worth checking.

James

can you confim that the IP addresses 88.82.13.171 and  88.82.13.173 are vodafone servers, they don't appear in the document at

http://www.vodafone.co.uk/cs/groups/public/documents/webcontent/vftst061123.pdf

Lastnight I noticed no signal on my Vodafone mobiles. I looked at the VSS and saw flashing red led, internet off, in service solid orange and in use solid orange. I have rebooted the device and left it overnight. Still the same status.

It has been working really well for the last few months.

Hey Guys,

Thanks for your posts here.

@ barker950,

Everything looks fine with the traceroute, speed test, IP address and the Sure Signal registration.

Can you let me know who your internet provider is and what router you are using?

Please can you also perform a reset on the Sure Signal to see if this will reset the connection?

@ markporter,

Everything looks fine for you to.

Please can you also reset the Sure Signal to make sure that it picks up the connection on your new internet provider?

@ All,

To reset the Sure Signal just follow these instructions.

-Locate the button on the base of the box next to the Ethernet ports.

-Press and hold the button for approximately 30 seconds.

-Once the lights come back on, release the button.

The Sure Signal will be back online in around 1 hour.

James

Hi James,

thanks for the response. In some of the posts it says to hold down the reset for approx 20 seconds etc...but that doesn't do anything on my version until I release the button. Anything else i can try?

Held the button down for more than 30 seconds, the lights don't go off until i release the button, then it tries to connect and fails.

cheers

mark

ISP is Talk Talk

Router is Belkin Wireless G F5D7634-4A-H v2

I dont have the manual with the Sure Siganl, how should i reset the device?
