Vodafone K3565 Rev 2 Dongle - I Got Slow Connection Then RAS Error 631

Can anyone assist please?

Brought new PAYG dongle today (K3565 Rev 2). Plug and Go, fast internet speed was the sales pitch that clinched it!

Plugged in, installed the VMC Lite (version 9.4.4.17702) - Connected to the internet and can't get a connection speed faster than 53.6 Kbps

All painfully slow - uninstalled, tried again, but no improvement. Signal showing as Very Good.

So why is the connection speed so slow? Not quite the 3.6Mbps the box and vodafone website stated.

Gone through forum, seen some suggestions for others similar experiences, nothing seemed to work.

Have now got a pop up showing Ras Error Code 631 - This shed any light on the problem?

I am running Windows 7 on new laptop and hoped this would sort me on mobile broadband.

I'm not looking for mega download speed, but wouldn't mind websites just loading swiftly as opposed to the speeds I had on dial up about 10 years ago.

Where am I going wrong?

Any suggestions or advice would be very welcome.

Cheers

Hi there Hill Spud, and welcome! :P

I've checked your area, and it seems that the problem here is congestion, sadly. When a cell site becomes overloaded - no matter the signal, this will affect your download speeds. In the meanwhile, there may be times of day that you find better or worse speed depending on traffic - if this is the case, it confirms what I can see.

There is some great news, however - we've spotted this and are setting up a new 3G site just by the Pelham Hotel - not too far from you! I have no timescale for this at the moment, but most of the details are up on our system, so I have faith it won't be too long!

Other than this, you can improve speeds by using an extension cable (to lengthen the distance the modem stays from the computer main chassis, and it's electrical field), as well as perhaps positioning the computer closer to a window or even another room.

Let us know how you get on, and if you need anything else!
