Vodafone K3805-z Dongle - I'm Getting Poor Connection Speeds

Hi, ive had a K3805-Z dongle now for a week and have experienced very poor signal quality.
It connects mainly to GPRS and have mainly transferred data in bps, not even k/bps.
Ive managed to use 20mb of my 3gb monthly allowance this last week which is terrible i know. atleast ill never go over my allowance i thought.

I just connected to the net via the dongle. GPRS as usual (poor - fair as usual). No Programmes running using internet useage in the background and as soon as it connected apparently it transferred 5gb of data in a few seconds on a GPRS connection..................... and i get a message saying im over my monthly allowance do i want to continue?

This is rediculous. Am i going to be billed for this? haha.

Hello Joe1111 and welcome to the eForum.

I must say 5GB of data on a GPRS connection, within a few seconds, sounds a bit too much. That sounds as if the VMC software is not displaying your data connection correctly, either that or something has consumed your data.

Is there anyway you could take a screen shot of your Usage count on the VMC software and post it on this thread?

Thanks

Yesterday evening on the train, I was noticing that when the signal got really bad/low, the upload speed in the Mac VMB 3.04.11.00 software would get a really high upload speed with the data transferred skyrocketing. The connection would eventually recover once the train had moved into a better signal area again. I noticed this on several occasions, and haven't seen it happen before.

Hi joe1111,

Can you let us know the postcode where your using the dongle as it may just be a case of poor coverage? Also do you travel with it i.e in a laptop as it would help if we knew if the issue persists everywhere and not just in one location.

Hi 1986smsm,

I'm afraid we can't guarantee connection speed when your on a train, I myself find little coverage when traveling on trains because the areas where I go to are poorly covered especially with 3g.

If you could narrow poor speeds down to an affected postcode we would be able to investigate further for you.:)

Thanks

Hi Joe111,

Thanks for the postcode, I have taken a look at this area and can see that it is an area of very patchy 3G coverage consisting of mainly outdoor coverage however, there is planned maintenace in your area to increase the availablility and strenght of 3G within the next couple of months.

In relation to your bill, you will still be charged for any connection that is made however this is best discussed with customer services on a one to one basis rather than over the eForum.
