Vodafone Mobile Broadband - Problem Signing Into Napster

Hi....
I have a Vodafone e272 dongle which i have been using for a year now. It has worked like a dream.....until now. I am able to connect to every website but, i need to sign in to my Napster account. Up until two weeks ago this was not a problem. I have contacted Vodafone and Napster who are both baffled. Using the dongle, i just cannot sign in but when i disconnect the dongle and use my laptop wireless network...i can sign in.
Is this a port setting thats changed for some reason?
I really need this to work and hope someone has an answer.
Thanks and hope i have explained this clearly.

Yeah it's working fine now even though I didn't get round to ringing Vodafone to give them details.

Thanks for all your help Vodafone.

Hello,

I am having the same problem with K3760 broadband dongle. I cannot seem to connect to the Napster server via the Napster Windows app (not the website).

I talked to the Napster people and they told me that ports 80, 443, 554, 1755 and 1935 need to be open. I believe vodafone does not block them but I think there's some kind of a compression/encryption problem going on. (the pictures on some of the sites i.e. Napster.com are not rendered correctly either.)

Few months ago I had a similar problem signing onto the Google Talk (and similar) using the vodafone mobile broadband and it got fixed by disabling the network adapter in the device manager. Nothing had changed since then but the problem seems persistant.

Called the 24 hr customer service but they couldn't help due to a system malfunction.

Currently I am paying to napster without being able to use it b/c of my internet connection.

Please help!!

Thanks.

Ali

Hi everyone,

It's great to hear most of you have managed to since sign into your Napster accounts. It's always good when the forum works for raising awareness of issues for out IT geeks to play with :D

Ali, as you're still experiencing the issue, I'd strongly recommend checking you have the latest software version for the VMC programme. Let me know how you get on with the latest patches :)

Cheers, Ben

Hello everyone

I'm afraid this is currently a problem that we're looking into as all preliminary suggestions (as per this thread) have failed to resolve the issues. It stands to reason that there is something still causing a conflict at network level, we've kept an eye on this and are still investigating whether this can be resolved from Napster's side.

Is there any update to this. I cannot sign into Napster when connected to my mobile broadband data card. I can access Napster fine when connected to an adsl connection.

Hi toof4st,

Thanks for getting in touch. I know Reidar flagged this up with our IT guys last month and was pushing for a progress report. As he's had nothing back himself, I'll bring this up in a meeting for you tomorrow to see if anyone heard any news back as it's obviously ongoing.

Keep your eyes on this thread and I'll get an update for you as soon as we've pow wowed :D

I have found a solution to help users workaround the issue and also help your IT guys to identify and resolve the issue.

Firstly, I installed a VPN connection to my home (don't worry, this isn't the workaround), and when I make this connection, from my mobile broadband connection, I can login to Napster fine- so it is not a modem issue, but a Vodafone network issue.

WORKAROUND:

I have been able to resolve this by running Fiddler downloadable from http://www.fiddlertool.com. Then running Fiddler (which debugs the connection), under the Rules menu, I checked "Remove All Encodings".

HELP FOR VODAFONE IT DEPARTMENT

I can only deduce there is some encoding in one of the requests/responses to Napster that is being corrupted. My guess - and this is just a guess - is its in your compression algorithm, or whatever you run on your servers. A caveat to this, is that I am able to connect, when VPNed to my home broadband connection, which is going first via my Vodafone connection, so whatever it is, is bypassed when I use a VPN connection.

Obviously, while I have worked around this, I believe this is something you should try and fix, as I can't imagine Napster is the only software/site affected.

Hope this helps and I look forward to your response.

Hi toof4st,

Thanks for this workaround, I know many of our customers will definitely benefit from this! :)

I’ve also fed this back for you as suggested. :)

Many thanks!
