Vodafone Mobile Broadband - Still Getting RAS Error Code 619 After Replacing The SIM?

communique

Following earlier threads on this topic, I have tried absolutely everything that has been suggested in previous postings in more than one thread on this topic in this Forum as a solution to the problem of failure to connect (3G and GPRS) using a vodafone k3565 mobile internet usb stick and I'm getting really discouraged!!

I obtained a new SIM for PAYG after having had a contract dongle with a different SIM for 12 months. Using this new SIM in my existing Huwaei dongle (as above). I am using the same USB stick as I had previously for PAYG BUT I am simply unable to connect and get the above error message time and again. I have completely uninstalled the previous version of Mobile Connect s/w installed on my machine (MS XP Home) and even deleted the Vodafone folder in Registry, installed the latest version of MC s/w, tried assigning a different COM port, etc. etc and have got absolutely NOWHERE. This has been going on nearly a week now!!

One odd thing I noticed - in the Manage Devices view, the stick is identified sometimes as "HUAWEI Mobile Connect - 3G Modem" and sometimes as "E160X" - it seems to change its mind as to the device identity....

PLEASE help - I am getting desperate!!

Just an additional note - how do I upgrade the firmware on the dongle? Also, is the Mobile Connect software (latest version) on the new SIM or do I have to download it from the website? I looked on Vodafone website and downloaded a 9.3.X version but somewhere I have seen talk of 9.4.X version - where do I find that on the website?

What APN do you have set in VMC?

Possibly old value for contract is still set (internet), in which case you need to set
it to that needed for your payg?

Hi David,

APN settings are as follows:
APN: pp.internet
Username: web
Password: ???

I guess "pp" stands for "prepaid", so any idea what it should be for PAYG? Will the password be different?

Duuuh - prepaid is the same as pay as you go I guess, so it looks as if this APN setting is OK?

I've had "RAS 619"
I made a new account in VMC and set it to PP.Internet, Web, and password is also "web"
I called it "internet" I then set it to connect to this automatically and Vodafone set to "prompt"
This curred my RAS 619.

You can call Technical help 191 for free help. They are good.

Finally managed to get online. The answer seemed to be uninstall everything (including reg values, dial up settings, etc.) installing the latest version of the VMC software (which was not easy to find! - 9.4.6.20529) and then plugging in the modem after that. Connected despite a plug and play warning from windows that modem was not properly installed..

For info - the APN setting is PPBUNDLE.INTERNET

What a relief!!!

Hello Communique, a fantastic bit of self-troubleshooting there, :)

I'm glad this is now resolved, this will certainly be of benefit to other forum members.

Thanks
