I've just been forwarded some information which should resolve this issue:

Please follow the steps below :)

1) uninstall VMC, reboot the computer
2) delete C:\Program Files\Vodafone\Vodafone Mobile Connect, if it still exists after the uninstall
3) delete the folder C:\Documents and Settings\\Application Data\vodafone (replace with name of current user - also please note that this is a hidden folder, you have to enable 'show hidden files and folders' in the Windows Explorer settings)
4) clean the Registry: (Click on Start > Run, and type "regedit" into the text box. Then press enter)
- delete HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Vodafone
- delete HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Vodafone

We have also received some suggestions for other general issues that may be related to the .NET framework installation errors, below:

1. Run Windows Update

2. Update additional Microsoft components manually:

Microsoft Installer version 4.5: Note: Download the file appropriate for the Operating System in use i.e. x86 WindowsXP-KB942288-v3-x86.exe for XP

Visual Basic Script 5.7 (Not for Vista):

.Net Family Update (Not for Vista): Note: require to install all 3 files.

Tried all that, still getting the same error. Is there a way to set up a connection manually using the "create a new connection" option in Network Connections?

Hi MW13,

Yes you can set it up through Dial Up Networking (DUN) as follows:

1. Go to Control Panel, Phone and Modem Options, select Modems Tab
2. Highlight the VMC device installed and select properties.
3. Click on the Advanced tab and enter AT+CGDCONT=1,”IP”,”internet” in the Extra Initialisation Command field.
4. Click Apply and OK to save changes.

DUN Settings for Windows:

1. Go to Start Menu / Control Panel / Network Connections / Create a new Connection
2. Choose "Connect to the Internet"
3. Select "Set up my Connection Manually"
4. Select "Connect Using Dial-up Modem"
5. Ensure the VMC Device is selected/ticked (and nothing else).
6. ISP Name = "Connection Name", (call it anything you like).
7. Enter the Phone number: *99***1#
8. Username & Password = web & web
9. Click "Finish" to complete.

Let me know how you get on :)

Cheers for the help

I've tried this and everytime I try to connect I get the message "Error 628: the connection was terminated by the remote computer before it could be completed"

I've tried it with the VMC software installed and with it removed...

Don't suppose there's any news on an update to the software to prevent the conflict with the Net 3.5 is there?

Thanks again

Hi MW13,

In all honesty, other than what information and diagnostics Jon has obtained from our VMC expert, I wouldn't know where else to go with this. I will pass this on to Jon to see if he can obtain any further suggestion but in regards to the software update on the conflict with Net 3.5, as far as I am aware there has been no official release planned, but again I will get this confirmed by the relevant department in the daytime.

Kind regards

Andrew

I will try the DUN setup tonight. Tried everything you suggested, Jon. No luck.

This means that I have now been without my 3G for almost a month... whilst paying. This is seriously frustrating.

Hello from Vodafone Romania.
I also have the same problem and i follow this instructions, and the same result.

But i found the most simply solution: just uninstall .NET Framework 3.5 from Start/Control Panel/Add remove programs...

No need restart or install/uninstall VMC...

Try this and post the results..

This works and then you can use the VMC software. However it means that if you have automatic updates enabled you have to keep uninstalling it every time it updates.

The issue is obviously with VMC and .NET Framework. There really needs to be an update to the VMC software to address this issue.

There is no point having the Vodafone modem/VMC if it isn't easy to use / instantly available...
