Vodafone connect router DHCP settings

mattman
4: Newbie

I have posted this into off topic as I can not see any reference to Vodafone Home phone and Broadband.

I have install the router and all is working but there one thing that is missing from the setting of the VDSL router that being a function to turn off DHCP, I have for the pasted 10 year had my own network running at home with a fully working server that is my DHCP & DNS server but for the first time in history I have just sign up for 18 month and got a bloody router that has no function in the GUI settings pages to turn OFF the DHCP server. So for now I will have to wait for 18 months before I can change ISP. thanks vodafone tech team for missing this one. If there is anyone out there that can offer me a firmware update to give me the function to turn OFF DHCP then please post it.

Take a look at our Troubleshooting video for further help with this.

If this still hasn’t resolved your issue, you can get in touch via the ways Chazz has provided in the last post.

@Matt, did you resolve the DHCP issue? I found this forum after having identified the same problem. I have the same setup and my broadband is just about to be activated. I have heard however that you can use your own ADSL router so that might be one way to get around it. Anyone tried this yet?

The official answer I've seen is that you need to use the Vodafone router "to provide full functionality".  I think this probably mainly means using the app to control your service.   I can't see why VF broadband would be technically different to anyone else's, though, and have a username/password login.   Try Live Chat and click on the Broadband tile to get routed to the correct team.   They should be able to tell you the login details if they're available.  You could also assure them that you realise you're on your own suppport-wise if you do decide to use your own router.

Remember that this is a basic domestic service and is set up to be easy to use for the subscriber and easy to support.   Having one type of hardware facilitates this and I don't know how much flexibilty there is in the system.

Hi

Sorry but the short awnswer is there is no fix on the Vodafone connect router for DHCP settings, you are correct in that you could use your own router but I'm not sure what the settings would be and way should we.

What we need is more people to contact Vodafone regarding the lack of DHCP function.

If you have time could you look at a site I'm doing as you are now a Vodafone Broadband customer.

If enough people talk to the broadband support team and ask for login details, it's highly possible that'll be fed back and that maybe the details will become available in time.  It's a new service and quite likely they're keeping the support and straightforward as possible initially.   Some providers are better at providing support if you bring your own router than others, though.

Login Details aren't the issue, there is simply no option in the GUI to disable the DHCP server. I want to use the connect router as an access point further into the house, as the signal is rubbish from where the line box is and I'm losing any benefit I could get from 5Ghz/ Beamforming etc.

Vodafone, is there any resolution to this yet? we need a DHCP=OFF and a DNS =OFF for Matt!

Can you do this remotely?

So I've had confirmation from a Vodafone Tekkie that DHCP disabling is not yet available. It might come about in a firmware release but as yet unknown. Your best bet is to either use the VF router standalone or alternatively, use your VF router and then your own router just as a wireless access point but with DHCP disabled. You also cannot use your own ADSL router. These features which might become available as their broadband product becomes more mature.

As I think I hinted, if enough people ask, it's more likely to happen.

I can't think of any reason why DHCP would be locked down like that, it doesn't affect anything that Vodafone would offer support for.

Are there any options for static IP allocation and/or port forwarding or are they unavailable as well?  It certainly doesn't sound like a gaming friendly router.

+1 for being able to at the very least change the DHCP scope options (specifically DNS server) or just turn it off.

Has anyone else noticed that the router acting as DNS is incredibly slow? I couldn't understand why my 80MB internet felt so sluggish. Ran some DNS tests using 'namebench'. Found that the router takes an average of 800ms (sometimes more) to respond. Google or Open DNS all less than 80ms. Its enough to really notice.

All I can do at the moment is manually set DNS on the devices as I can't change DHCP options.

Oh, and not being able to split out the SSID for the 2.4ghz and 5ghz networks is annoying. Anyone know if using your own VDSL router with Vodafone is possible?
