i have set up vpn with my 3g data card with vodafone, and i want to know is how much does it cost and does it effect my 3gb allowance per month, as im only actually using their net work as tunnel to my home network.

Yes, even though you are going through a VPN tunnel, you are still using Vodafone bandwidth, so you would use approximately the same as if you were not using the tunnel. (Actually it is a little more, to take account of the overheads of setting up and maintaining the tunnel, but that is so small as to be irrelevant, and there are other factors such as compression that will make it use slightly more)

As far as cost is concerned, I believe it will cost exactly the same as using the service normally.

As pointed out by Siddie you would still be using the Vodafone network to carry the data, even though it is only being used as a tunnel. Any traffic carried via the sim card in the modem registers as part of your bundle and deducts from your data tariff.
