Why won't you let me leave?!?

I was on a pay monthly deal for 24 months. My contract was coming to a close in June, so on June 7th I called the team and told them I wanted to switch to a pay-as-you-go sim.

A couple of weeks go by and I haven't recieved an email or any confirmation that I'm switching to pay-as-you-go, so I contact the team again on webchat. It's confirmed to me that it's all going ahead and I'll get an email soon.

I pay another monthly subscription of £25 on June 25th, and I reason that this surely should be the last one and cancel my direct debit.

Last night, July 12th,  I contact the team again:

What has happened?

It doesn't get any clearer when I'm transfered.

Luckily I have a sense of humour throughout this pressurised sales pitch and I'm laughing and shouting at the tablet screen. JUST LET ME LEAVE!

Getting transfered doesn't clear anything up, but by this point I'm losing the will to live.

What? Why is the bill being generated on the 7th of August, when i requested to leave the contract on JUNE 7th!?!!!

Why have you taken money off me 2 months more than I wanted to stay?

And seriously, if Aaron's pressurised sales pitch is what he's told to do- tell him to pack it in. It's a good job I have a sense of humour or else I'd have been sharing some colourful language with him.

Apologies about the pics being seperate, I tried loading them into the body of the message but it was taking forever and a day.

Hi @crdawkins86

When the request is made to change to PAYG from contract, with the Terms and Conditions requiring 30 days notice, this will mean the number will be scheduled to move to PAYG in 30 days.  If there was any remaining time left on the contract, this would also have been chargeable.

You will also receive two further bills, one of which may contain a credit and the final bill with a zero balance as your confirmation there is no further responsibility towards the contract.  As the advisor has confirmed, this will be generated on the 8th August.  It is very important to keep the direct debit in place until you receive the final bill, if you cancel too early, it will leave Vodafone without an account to repay any credit or take anything further owing.  As this has been cancelled, you will need to be very careful that there was nothing further owing.

When the number is on PAYG, Vodafone should sent you a new PAYG SIM for the number.   If this has not been received, Customer Services, will be able to chase this up for you.

Moving from Pay monthly to Pay as you go

I’m leaving Vodafone – what will happen with my bills?

@crdawkins86

You need to be very careful paying your final bill, this is best done by calling Vodafone and making a card payment, this way the payment will go straight to the account.  Paying by bank transfer is not recommended, Vodafone won't have any idea where the money came from and the payment could very easily get lost and never make it as your final payment.

Hi @AnnS

Thank you so much for getting back to me and explaining things fully.

Initially when I called on June 7th, I was told that it would take 14 days to sway to PAYG- hence the huge confusion. There was no remaining time left on my contract- so I'm sure there are no charges there.

My direct debit has been cancelled, but one of the advisors gave me Vodafone account no and sort code so I can bank transfer when I get a bill.

Just to clarify Ann, there is no new SIM card sent when switching from PAYM to PAYG.

Your original SIM card just becomes PAYG after thirty days notice.
