I woke in the middle of the night by my phone ringing. I got up to see who it was. The caller id was my wife who was asleep next to me. Her phone was also in the room, turned off?? Any ideas how this is possible. Wife's phone is a samsung on 02 mine is HTC on vodafone.

Phones are really only in a state of deep sleep when switched off, but I very much doubt that they'd retain enough functionality to initiate a call. I'd have thought it was more likely to be a glitch in the O2 system and happened upstream of the phone itself. I can't say I've ever heard of it, but Googling "mobile phone phantom call" produces some results. Keep an eye on it. If it happens again, speak to O2. Also, check the call record on the bill.

I’ve come across phones instigating calls or sending texts by themselves before.
Usually it turns out to be the Sim Card somehow glitching.
If this happens again then as a process of elimination you could try the SIM card in another phone for a while.
It may never occur again.
Any Network Highstreet Shop can perform a Sim Swap to replace the SIM card if necessary.

Thanks....a little disconcerting when the phone is off...seems very strange that you can receive a phone call from a phone with no power. I'd would love to know the science behind that!
