My 3 analog phones are all plugged into extension sockets so I need to connect the router to the extension cable.
I think I can do that but Vodafone support say it won't work.
What's the truth please?
I'm looking at My Mate Vince on YouTube.

Of course it will work. Are you on FTTP or FTTC? It's much easier on FTTP as you no longer need the master socket to be connected back to the cabinet.

Thanks.
I guess I'll need the master box to keep me connected for adsl. Not fibre
Presumably no need to modify that in any way.

Hopefully VDSL not ADSL, but yes if not on Full Fibre you need to keep the master socket functioning.
You will need to disconnect the extension wires from the master socket, and the the wires that were on 2 and 5 need to be connected to the two connectors in the TEL socket on the router.
My preferred method would be to get a phone extension socket, mount it next to the master socket and connect the extension wiring into it. You should then be able to use a BT to RJ11 cable to connect it to the router.
Do let us know just what you decide to do.

Thanks again. I cancelled the upgrade order out of cowardice but now I'm not so scared 😉
As soon as I have a working system I'll update this posting.

What upgrade is that?

They offered to extend my broadband for another 2 years at the same rate. When they confirmed my order it included a new router and Digital Voice.....rabbit hole

Your problem may be that while the existing Plain Old Telephone System (POTS) can be repurposed to provide a VDSL service, ADSL is more complicated since it's historically had the equipment situated within the Telephone Exchange. So, if you are on ADSL or VDSL and have digital voice, you'd need to disconnect the extensions from the Master Socket and instead have them wired into the phone socket on the router. It's normally as simple as a tool-free RJ11/RJ12, which I'm guessing you can source from MMV or another vendor.

Thanks. I didn't say that the router is not within reach of the master so its internet socket is plugged into an extension. So the extension circuit has to stay connected to the exchange.
Old House not made for today.

Ah, that complicates things a little, You will need to split the extensions, one run for the router and one for the phones.
If you have been using the router on an extension socket till now, it's probably been slowing your connection. Telephone wiring is not really suitable for DSL signals. If you can I would recommend running a separate DSL extension using twisted pair cable.
