WiFi speeds not correct

Just had the 900mbps line installed.

When the engineer installed it, he tested the WiFi and was like "oh, it's only 500, will probably take awhile to get the speed through".

However once he left, I whacked in a cable and did a test and got 930mbps, and yet when testing over WiFi I got 500mbps and then today I getting 300mbps over WiFi, but the cables test is fine.

I rang Vodafone who said they would update the firmware on the router and I should call back in a week.

Just to let you know... Excact same results after firmware update.

I'll wait a week.. But I feel this was just fobbing me off.

Also, I've tried on multiple WiFi devices, even my 13th gen intel laptop i just got with the latest WiFi card in it.

This evening I can only get 100 of my 900 speed... Yet upload is fine....

ive tried this across phones and laptops, it's just hourendous. And it keeps dropping the connection to the WiFi too... Even when right next to it.

Vodafone are still convinced that everything is fine...

As you are still talking about Wi-Fi and not the broadband (at least I assume you are) have you tried using an access point (or old router configure as one) to see if it only the Wi-Fi from the Vodafone router that is affected?

If you do give it a try, use the same settings (i.e. Wi-Fi channels) as the Vodafone router is using, as interference may effect different channels differently.

Have you tried a full factory reset of the Vodafone router?

On the Vodafone router I got 300mbps over WiFi on average, sometimes 500mbs at a push.

Installed my own wifi 5 ap, put it at the same settings and got average of 600mbps so double the Vodafone average but still not the 900mbps.

I then picked up a wifi 6 ap and also turned it to 80hz over the 5ghz and changed the channel and now I average 850mbps

Also, I am aware of everything that could affect the WiFi router so I put the 2 different ap in the same place as the other 1 at a time and turned off the WiFi on the Vodafone router when testing so it has the same area and same environments.

So yeah gave up on Vodafone and used my own ap to get the best result.

I’m in the same boat. The supplied router is absolutely useless and is in no way suitable for a 910mb connection. Which is why they also do the same 910mb with an ultra hub. I’ve just moved from sky 67mb FTTC to Vodafone 910 FTTP and the speeds I get at the clients was quicker with sky 😆.

Think you are going to struggle to get anything - a third party wifi system is only way to go.

I have Unifi wifi (with ethernet backhaul) and I only get 500mbps at absolute most from it and that is business grade..  so the THG3000 is doing ok.

Perphaps EERO could worth a look but you will need a more expensive on and a device that can cope with it.  1 GB/s from a wifi device is pretty hard to achieve I believe but I might be wrong

Experiencing a significant gap between the promised 900mbps and actual wifi speeds, despite cable tests showing 930mbps. Vodafone's firmware update did not resolve the issue, prompting skepticism about the proposed one-week wait for improvement.

WiFi speeds will always be lower than expected as the wifi itself is a bottleneck. I have an asus wifi6 router. In theory 80MHz bandwidth is good for 1200Mbps, but in reality right now I'm getting 325Mbps.

Speed testing over wifi is invalid for this reason.

It sounds frustrating to experience such a gap between the promised 900mbps and the actual wifi speeds, especially when cable tests are showing higher speeds. Since Vodafone's firmware update didn't resolve the issue, it's understandable to feel skeptical about waiting another week for improvement. You might consider reaching out to Vodafone's customer support again to express your concerns and see if there are any additional troubleshooting steps or solutions they can offer. Additionally, it could be helpful to check for any potential interference or configuration issues with your wifi network that could be impacting its performance.

@jack5253  Which AI product wrote that response to a posting from three months ago?
