Landline phone with own router on FTTP

Just got FTTP and everything is working fine off the VF router. Phone lines are plugged into the VF router, VF router's WiFi is switched off. 3rd party Mesh has been switched to Bridge mode and plugged into the VF's ethernet port.

However I am shocked at how feature poor the VF router is. e.g. There are no Parental controls at all. I know I can get rid of the VF router and plug my own Mesh router into the Openreach ONT, but what about the Landline.

Are there any 3rd party routers in the market that have a telephone socket at the back to allow the home phone to be plugged in?

Vodafone's digital voice service will never work on a mobile or whatever. The only devices it does work on have been listed on this very thread.

I'm not looking to use it directly. I'm looking to use it with an Asterisk PBX system local to the router that's directly connected to the fibre terminal. Those does work as it has been listed in this very thread. I just want to get Asterisk working locally, and I can tackle the Android and VPN issue after that.

Asterisk works locally, right? So all I need is some tutorial of how to get it working. I can then explore Asterisk in more detail once it's actually directly connected to my service, either running on my home server or something like a Raspberry Pi SBC.

I misread your post, sorry. As far as I can remember asterisk was mentioned in the opening pages of this thread, but I don't recall anyone actually having any success. I wish you well in your venture and hope for it's success.

The service is voip, but vodafone have used obscure settings, stuff that's not normally exposed in apps.

I did the initial implementation on asterisk before applying a representative config on the Grandstream WP810. I've been using the asterisk setup for around 3 years without too many issues.

I'm awaiting my new WP822. The last one wouldn't boot after a firmware update and grandstream issued an RMA for me.

Looking back on this thread today I see how far we've actually come, and how long this thread is getting 😁

Oh very nice. I'll check that out. Thank you.

That's ok. I'll give you a pass for that 😝

Hi,
Testing my understanding,  so Vf's 'digital voice' isnt 'voip', as if it was should be useable with a viop handset or mobile voip app, assuming all setting information is provided (notwithstanding such being witheld) ?

Down the road a bit when dear old analogue line (which includes dect of course) phones are fully obsolete nla, how will one be able to make a phone call via DV/voip with Vf?

Going on everything that has been listed in this very long thread, and the SIP login, server address and registrar I have obtained from Vodafone directly, I have discovered that this is SIP VOIP, so your fears are not necessarily warranted. We can work out the wrinkles when we get it working with Asterisk. Once I have some success with that then maybe all hardware ATA, PBX hardware and SIP software that has the relevant obscure settings can all be configured to work with Vodafone's implementation of SIP 'digital voice' VOIP landline replacements. There's no reason a software PBX can't provide all the relevant settings for this.

Just out of interest, what is the registrar information for that Vodafone provided? I am only just slightly more than a newbie to all this SIP stuff, but have a vast technical and computing background. I have this so far:

User name for Vodafone broadband DSL

Password for the above

User name for Vodafone Digital Voice (visible in stock router).

Password for the above

SIP server for the above

SIP Registrar.

These are all the details I could extract from Vodafone agents, and they gave them willingly.
