Solution

Phone not ringing plugged into THG3000 router.

We have a THG3000 router. We have plugged an analogue phone in the back phone socket of the router. We have used the phone plug to RJ11 adapter that came with the router.

The phone can call out, but it won't ring. Its ringer is on and set to high. While calling the number I can hear the router buzz in time with the ringing. A little light on the router flashes in time with the ringing too - labelled phone.

This happens with multiple analogue phones.

Any ideas?

Thanks, Lee

Thank you. An ADSL filter fixed it.

I had the same problem when Vodafone switched me to Digital Voice.  Neither of my fairly old handsets would ring.  My research indicated that perhaps I needed a ring capacitor incorporated in the connector provided by Vodafone.  Despite several calls and chats with Vodafone which wasted at least a couple of hours whilst they carried out various tests and reset my router, they refused to accept that this might be the solution, telling me I needed to purchase a new phone.  Nevertheless I purchased a connector incorporating a capacitator for £2 plus P&P and now the phone rings.  Perhaps VF can advise whether there is anything wrong with this solution.  There must be an awful lot of VF customers spending a lot of money on new phones, as advised by VF, when it seems the problem could easily and cheaply be avoided if VF provided a suitable adaptor.

Why are Vodafone supplying adapters with no ring capacitor?

Because they don't understand how phones work.

TBH a lot of customers are getting the correct adapters. There's only a few cases where that's not happening? Old stock?
