Solution

Cancel - moving to non Cityfibre area

Hi,

I'd like to sign up to Vodafone fibre 500, Cityfibre is available in my area.

However I do not plan to be living here long, defiantly the entire 2 year contract term (maybe 6-12 months)

What I would like to know, if I moved to a non Cityfibre area, could I cancel the contract without any termination charges ?

Could Voda just insist you go onto one of their non City fibre tariffs (i.e. using Openreach network).

Or can I insist it has to be like - for like,.  I signed up for 500Mb connection and if Vioda cannot provide it at my new address, then I can leave without incurring charges ?

It seems abit grey to me.

Thanks

I replied to your other post, but I think they will be within their rights to expect you to move to an equivalent Openreach service, after all, you don't get a choice of provider when you join.

If no equivalent is available, then yes you should be able to leave..

But only Vodafone can confirm for sure,

I did speak to someone from Vodafone but its still abit grey.

He said Voda will only allow you to terminate without charge if they cannot provide you any service., doesn't matter on technology/product. In theory you could buy the 900Mb package, move to a new address where only FTTC is available and then put onto the 80Mb package.

What was confusing is that he said Voda can use either Openreach or Cityfibre network, giving the impression that as long as Openreach can provide 900Mb in the new address I'd be OK.

That doesnt match my experience.  Cityfibre only went live on my street 2 months ago and its only since then that I have higher packages available.  Before then the fastest package was  80Mb.However I know that Openreach have been live on my street for over a year and neighbours have 900Mb from them. The Voda rep said it could be a capacity issue

However I then checked 5 address in nearby towns where Openreach/ ISPs offer 900mb and which CityFibre is not available. For all of these address, Voda only offered 80mbs.

Do Voda really offer their top FTTP packages over the Openreach network ?

I would have said yes, but I've just checked a local address to me where they used to offer all the speeds, but now they are only offering Full Fibre 1 or 2, but they want an extra £3 for the slower speed. I think their databases are seriously screwed.

that's been my experience too.

Never offered anything faster than 80mb at my address until CityFibre went live 2 months. Same for 5 random addresses I checked in nearby (non CF) addresses.

I know Voda were the main launch ISP for CF, maybe its an exclusive contract where Voda can't use Openreach in certain areas.

I find it difficult to believe that at 6 addresses I have checked (all have Openreach FTTP) its a capacity issue - especially when other non BT ISP offer FTTP. A capacity issue just for Voda ?

I could be wrong

Could it be that Vodafone have used-up all the capacity that they have negotiated with OpenReach and until they get some more the only solution will be City Fibre?
