I bought a vodafone sim-card for emergency use only for a secondhand Apple i-phone 8. Without using the phone aspect since Jan 12th , on odd days, I am charged £1 . No humans exist at so-called customer services for help. Can anyone "real" kindly offer suggestion, please. Answer in "baby" talk, since at 80 years old, the modern world of technical jargon has left me stranded. Thanks.

Hi @Pete41
You will be on PAYG 1 and will only be charged on the days the SIM makes a connection to the network for outgoing calls , texts and data See here: PAYG 1
The problem here will be with an Apple phone, it is designed to be permanently connected to the internet, if the SIM makes a connection through the mobile network, you will be charged £1.00. To prevent this, make sure you have your mobile data turned off and WiFi selected, at least then you will only be able to connect to the internet where there is a WiFi connection. There is also a feature called WiFi assist here :Apple WiFi Assist make sure this is also OFF.
To prevent disconnection for non use make sure there is some outgoing chargeable activity during a 180 day period, this can be a top up, call or text message.
