Does WiFi calling work with any of the 'Pay as you go' plans? Does it still work when roaming?

Yes @TibbieLover WiFi data calling is available on PAYG.
Check out if your phone is supported here: Data Calling To set your WiFi calling follow device guides How do I set up WiFi calling You can also text CALLING to 97888 to have the feature set up on your account.
To add: Data calling is basically a UK service and may not work abroad. No harm giving it a try but it may not work.

Wi-Fi Calling or VoWi-Fi is not restricted by technology but rather by mobile operators for use abroad.
For one simple reason.
When you use Wi-Fi Calling or VoWi-Fi abroad, you are connected directly to the network back in the UK over the Wi-Fi so you will be paying for calls/sms (not sure if VF supports SMS as well) as you are in the "UK".
So let's say you are in the EU where calls within the EU cost you or used to cost the same as in the UK and you can make sort of free EU calls to any of the EU country an back home for the same price (inclusive minutes),
when you are connected VoWi-Fi and in the EU country and make a call to your local delivery place for food lets say in Spain your call will be charged as "International call" to Spain and that is something hard to sell so many operators block usage of VoWi-Fi abroad for that simple reason.
Did anyone tried the VF PAYG abroad for Wi-Fi Calling or VoWi-Fi?

I don't know who decided that this was an accepted solution. It was my question and, so far, there is no solution. It is very much a work in progress. On Wednesday I got the following automatic response to a text message 'CALLING' sent to 97888:
'Thanks. We'll add Wi-Fi calling to your account in the next 24 hours and will let you know when you're all set up.'
Since then, nothing.
