So after less than a year I have an upgrade available, I go through the motions and fill everything in. It says in my basket that it will be about £44, I go to the order screen and it shoots up by almost £22. Is this due to my current contract not being finished or some other random add on?

Yes it maybe the early flexi upgrade termination fee as described in https://support.vodafone.co.uk/Pay-monthly/Upgrades-changing-plan> What-s-a-Flexi-upgrade-and-how-do...

Yes @jbaker22 this will be Vodafone's early upgrade promise on an Evo contract when you have had the phone for 12 months. This is explained here: Early Upgrade Promise.
If you decide to take advantage of an early upgrade, there will still be the device payments to make on a monthly basis, if you trade in your old phone, you will be able to use the trade in cash towards a new device plan. There is further information on the Evo link here: Evo and the Trade in link here: Trade In
If you decide to trade in to save money on a new device plan, you will be asked at checkout how you wish to return the device and this has to be completed within the first 14 days of taking a new Evo plan.
I am not sure about the price you have been quoted for the early upgrade, but am sure this will drop off when you take a new airtime plan. The Application should give all the early upgrade options, but if you still need clarification, live chat or Customer Services are there to help.
