Solution

Call problems in the US

step_hen
4: Newbie

I’m currently in the US, where Vodafone use T-Mobile and AT and T. I wanted to make people aware there’s a technical  issue with AT and T that prevents voice calls being made and received. Calls can be made on T- Mobile, but I find that their coverage is inferior to AT and T,’s. After several conversations with Voda tech support, they acknowledged there is a problem with AT and T, but, apparently, they’re not in touch with AT and T to resolve the problem.

Thank you Steph, at last something positive from Vodafone and it looks as if a solution to roaming in the USA may not be far off for Vodafone customer now.

Is there any news on when we can expect a further update on this from either your team or by way of an update to the web site/press release.

Is any one able to confirm if VoLTE calling for Vodafone UK Customers roaming in the USA has gone live today as detailed above?

Hi @Jaydun68

We haven't had any comms advising that there has been any delays, so we assume the fix has gone ahead.
Please try to do another manual roam on your device, and select T-Mobile Network to see if this works for you?

I’m not currently in the USA but am travelling there soon.
I’m  trying to decide wether to risk sticking with Vodafone for my up coming travels as I need a reliable mobile service that can make and receive landlines voice calls to and from the UK  . With out VoLTE I don’t consider Vodafone reliable and will (reluctantly) have to change to EE before I travel. Hence why I am keen to find out if VoLTE has been enable as discussed.

I was in New York 2 weeks ago and had terrible connection problems as described by others. The only "trick" was to switch into Airplane Mode and out again to get a short burst of 4G before it dropped to Edge. In some parts of the city I did manage to keep a 4G connection but it was very patchy.

I am now back in the US down in Miami and have had a solid 4G connection since arriving on the 13th Sep.....so 2 days before the VoLTE "fix" was due to launch. I don't know whether Miami was unaffected by the original issues and has continued to operate on 4G without a problem or whether the "fix" is up and running nationwide and I'm benefiting from it.

My handset is a Galaxy Note 9 with VoLTE enabled and roaming on T-Mobile. I'm not showing VoLTE in any SIM status (just LTE in Mobile Voice network type and Mobile data network type) but my latest Speedtest results are 27mb d/l and 15mb upload which is pretty decent.

Be interesting to see if New York has improved as this would suggest the "fix" has worked and we're back in business. I'll post again if I suffer any Edge issues while travelling around the Miami area as this would suggest the "fix" has not been implemented.

Thank you for the update.
Can  you confirm that you can now make and receive conventional telephone calls across the  T-Mobile 4G network as well as using data? I’m

heading to Miami and Fort Myers in a few weeks so I am particularly interested as you seem to be in Florida.
Your feed back will be greatly appreciated.

Hi all! Thank you for the feedback on the network difficulties you've been experiencing whilst in the USA. Due to the challenges you've all faced, we've implement a solution that went live on Thursday (15th September 2022). This has enabled 4G calling when roaming in the USA.

To access this service, you must have a compatible 4G device and have updated to the latest software version. Some customers may need to complete a manual roam and connect to AT&T's 4G network; for instructions on how to do this, please check out our Device Guides here 🙂

The problem I had is that my iPhone wouldn't connect to the AT&T network (even if manually selected).  It determinedly stayed stuck on T-Mobile and that was 2G 99% of the time.

So I have managed to manually connect to AT&T with 4G LTE. Data speeds were variable but I did actually see a max 40mb/sec download and 20mb/sec upload at one point. However, I could not place ANY calls, even after going into Flight Mode and back and also restarting my phone. LoLTE was switched on in my phone settings but there was no indication of a VoLTE Switching back to TMobile allowed me to make calls again although data speeds were less than 1mb/sec download (was much better yesterday) - will test again later to see if it's just a dead area.

Anyway, the "fix" Vodafone have implemented has not worked fully for me.
