Changing payment method to Credit Card

GreggyGregGreg

I have attempted to change my payment method for my monthly contract to a credit card, and have entered my credit card details, but cannot figure out how to actually get my account to switch to credit card.  All it seems to allow me to do is to change my bank account details for my direct debit.

How do I change to pay my bill by credit card?

Your account is set up to be paid by the preferred method of Direct Debit.

You can elect to pay by a Card via the following method in How-do-I-pay-my-bill. Which is carried out manually so you'd need to remember to pay and pay on enough time to clear on your account @GreggyGregGreg

Customer services on 191, Live Chat or the Vodafone Social Media Team's via Contact-us-for-account-specific-queries can officially clarify.

So presumably I would have to pay a certain amount of time before the direct debit is taken?  What is the cutoff period before it would be too late to prevent the direct debit being taken?

From Paying-your-bill.

We’ll take bill payments from your bank up to 10 days after we create your bill. "

I understand that, but the process to take the direct debit begins a lot sooner than the ten days it leaves my account.  If I make a credit card payment nine days after my bill, the direct debit will still be taken.  I was hoping someone could tell me when Vodafone's direct debit process goes into action, so that I know how soon after my bill is generated I would have to pay by credit card?

Live Chat or the Vodafone Social Media Team's can access your account to advise if that helps @GreggyGregGreg

It's a very fine balance doing what you want to do and I certainly don't want to be part of you missing payments and then Vodafone instigating collection methods.

A Direct Debit is the best way forward but I respect it's your choice and ultimate responsibility.

The direct debit would obviously still be in place, so no risk of missing payments.  Besides, I cannot imagine Vodafone chasing me for a debt of £11 when I am willing to pay for it and they have my credit card details on file.

In the meantime, I wonder if anyone actually knows the answer to my question?

Hi @GreggyGregGreg

Banks need  2 weeks notice before a direct debit can be taken, if you pay when you receive the billing text notification  this will cancel out the direct debit, any later the direct debit will be active at the bank and Vodafone will be unable to stop the transaction at the bank.
