Changing provider timescale

cyber
4: Newbie

My plan ends on the 16th. I wish to switch to O2 to avoid roaming charges. At what date should I ask to keep my number and order a SIM from O2 to avoid paying a disconnection fee to Vodafone and also to avoid being disconnected during the transfer, considering that it is going to take time to O2 to send me a new SIM card?

Hi @cyber

Ports don't happen on a weekend so if this was me I'd ask for the Pac via the following routes on the 16.2.22.

From https://www.vodafone.co.uk/help-and-information/cancel-your-account

"Get your PAC code from us

  • Chat - use Webchat to speak to us online
  • Online - log in to your account online, go to Settings > Plan settings > View > Switch to another network > Switch my network
  • Call - free from your Vodafone phone on 191
  • Text - if you only have one mobile number on your account

Unfortunately if you have more than one number on your account, texting isn't possible - please use one of the other options instead.

If you would like to text us, you'll need to send us your 4-digit account PIN. Delete the message after you've sent it so nobody can see your PIN. Find out how to set up or change your account PIN

  • Text PAC + PIN - for example, PAC 1234
  • Remember to include a space between PAC and PIN
  • Send to: 65075

Give the code to your new provider "

Give that to o2 within 30 days of recieving the Pac from Vodafone and they'll complete the process which if all goes OK should be on Monday 17.2.22.

I'd give it to o2 as close as possible to your contract end date with Vodafone.

Could you visit an o2 shop to get the new contract up and running to avoid having to wait for a sim to come via post  ?

Leave your Vodafone direct debit in place until you get a sorry your leaving letter and £0 bill.
