Hi, I am lucky enough to be in the Maldives. As soon as I arrived I turned off mobile data as I can use the resort wifi. However I still have signal bars and I have received texts from Vodafone saying Welcome with details of charges.
I looked on MyVodafone and can’t see any extra charges but I am paranoid as it is so expensive here!
am I being charged?
I just turned mobile data back on for a split second and then turned off Data Roaming (I had previously assumed that if I turned off Mobile Data that would be enough).
please can someone explain? I need to know whether I should be doing the same for my husband and kids. Thank you

You will be charged for outgoing and incoming calls, texts and charged for all data by the MB. The only way to avoid charges is to put the phones on flight (offline) mode and use the resort WiFi. The charges are here: Charge Checker Roaming
Make sure you have Spend Manager active here: Spend Manager

If I go on flight mode the wifi also turns off. Are you sure this is correct?

I have now turned on Aeroplane mode and wifi. And will continue using this. But surely if I turn off cellular data (and/or data roaming?) it is the same?

@clareykc Maldives is in Zone D, so you will be charged £6.85 for 24 Hour period from the moment you make a call, send a text or use Data.
Receiving a call or a Text is now free on Vodafone when you are Roaming in Zone A-D.
If you are not planning to use Roaming, then my recommendation is always switch of Mobile Data before Boarding your plane.
