Series 4 Apple Watch Cellular doesn’t work

So, in typical Vodafone fashion they have come out with a new feature and product that doesn’t work at launch - in-fact it does several unannounced and unauthorised credit checks.

So I received my brand new iPhone and Apple Watch today and I have to admit, they look fantastic, after opening the iPhone box and just seeing the magnificence that is the phone I am definitely happy with my purchase.

I open up the oddly packaged watch box and start to set it up, everything is fine except for when I got to the mobile data setup section- at first it looked promising a Vodafone log-in screen, “Awesome” I thought, so I logged in and all of a sudden it was asking me to add a subscription for £5 per month.. I thought this was strange as I was already paying for the watch now you’re trying to charge me more for a subscription, I knew it seems to be a mistake so I just glanced at the terms, it seemed normal just about linking them together so it made sense, I went ahead and clicked add subscription knowing that I would just call Vodafone and explain the situation if they tried to charge me more.

Anyway, it shows me a loading screen and I’m simply waiting for it to complete the link between my devices.

After a short while it went to a blank white screen and then... what’s this... I HAVE FAILED A CREDIT CHECK AND I HAVENT BEEN CHARGED?!?!?

So not only did it fail.. Vodafone has performed a credit check, without authorisation just to link it to my existing plan that I was already credit checked on?

Good one Vodafone, will be returning the watch and the device and leaving the network for good, this is the final straw, I’ve had nothing but trouble with you for 7 years and I’ve stuck by you, but you just cannot get anything right first time, EVER.

wondering if anyone else had this happen to them.

Hi everyone,

OP here, I can’t believe this issue is still effecting some people, I get emails almost daily about updates for this, it’s crazy to think it still hasn’t been sorted for everyone.

i can now finally say all of my issues are resolved and everything is working fine, you have to be persistent and contact the directors team, standard help from the tech team does not work.

Contact Nick Jeffries team and hopefully you will get I resolved like I did.

I think I made a big mistake moving my number to Vodafone, I’ll just give it 2 more days and I am out of this rubbish network.

I have the same issues;

1. WIFI and 4G calling disabled on the phone. (Shows enabled on Vodafone website)

2. Vodafone UK showing on watch app mobile data and spinning

no resolve after 10 days.

Same happening to me... Illegal credit check included...my process began 5 weeks ago and now have spent a total of 12 hours on calls and chats...My case has been escalated 8 times. I think I need an explanation... It's all in my notes and recorded calls. I am waiting for a scheduled call (4times scheduled) nothing...no help.. Live chat just said they can't help... Is it legal to not stand by a contact agreement to such a degree? the customer has no resolution power except switching services providers.... Terrible terrible experience

I saw posts on here and saw people thought they had credit checks done, so I checked my credit file and there were no searches registered. Have a look at one of free credit searches. I was getting fed up with False promises. So I took the advice of someone here and contacted the directors office with a long email. Got a call within an hour and my watch was connected by the end of the day.

Please tell me how you made contact?

Please..

I called 191 asked for complaints and then for the email address for the directors office.

Thanks... One last go I guess

Glad we're not the only ones. Here is my experience with Vodafone over the last week or so, which has been a nightmare.

1. In shop to start a new contract and link it to an Apple Watch Series 4, they put me through a credit check. Credit check failed, and according to Experian, it is because of a Vodafone issue! Well, the issue was, they had 3 months of coverage issues at a previous address so we closed our account and it was agreed they would waive the termination fee being it was their fault. But unkown to me, Vodafone forgot to make a note of this, so the debt was, outstanding and reported to Experian! Not my fault! (Should be noted, this did not effect me opening accounts with Three and EE for work phones.)

2. The manager came down and was very very rude, showing no care for the hours we had waited and the amount we spent on parking. We left the store and I filed a complaint online.

3. I was contacted by Vodafone by phone and they managed to open an account. Once it was active a few days later (had to wait for PAC to transfer over), as instructed, I called 191 to activate the Apple Watch sim. Was told it would take 12 to 24 hours.

4. 24 hours later, it was still not working, so called 191 again. Was told it wold work within 24 hours and I would receive a call by 9am to notify me. I did not receive a call, and the watch sim was still not active.

5. Waited another 24 hours, and as I type this, it is still not active and the 191 staff say it will be another 24-48 hours. I told them I will close the account and go with EE, whose whole customer experience, website and more is light years ahead. I chose Vodafone purely because another family member is on the same network that makes international calls cheaper.

Note that the 191 system with voice recognition and the menu structure is useless and very stressful to deal with. Further, the call centre staff are not intelligent enough to deal with problems and make insulting remarks like "I am trying to earn your trust." "We sill have this matter sorted soon." and other patronising remarks.

Futher more, the online chat never works, and I have screenshots to prove it. And it gets worse, it took 3 days before the Vodafone website to allow us to open an online account, with technical problems preventing this for that time.

Vodafone, you need to overhaul your network, the website, the customer experience and use English first language call centre staff located in the UK.

I’m definitely not alone then , they’ve now told me to give it till Tuesday, won’t hold my breath and I’ve just entered another 2 year contract or I’d be gone from Vodafone, good luck with yours

I have been lucky as when I checked my vodaphone account the apple watch 4 was showing under my main line so I checked my Iphones watch app and went to the mobile date section and there was a message saying it needed to update so I turned everything off and restarted and it seems to be active now.

I did manage to speak to a gentleman yesterday from somewhere in the UK who took the EID etc and I suppose it just took the time for the vodafone system to update which as we know is taking ages at the moment, Ive also seen lots of error messages too.

I hope those waiting get it sorted soon - we can now see why they have to give you 6 months free as its taking nearly that to get it sorted.
