Series 4 Apple Watch Cellular doesn’t work

So, in typical Vodafone fashion they have come out with a new feature and product that doesn’t work at launch - in-fact it does several unannounced and unauthorised credit checks.

So I received my brand new iPhone and Apple Watch today and I have to admit, they look fantastic, after opening the iPhone box and just seeing the magnificence that is the phone I am definitely happy with my purchase.

I open up the oddly packaged watch box and start to set it up, everything is fine except for when I got to the mobile data setup section- at first it looked promising a Vodafone log-in screen, “Awesome” I thought, so I logged in and all of a sudden it was asking me to add a subscription for £5 per month.. I thought this was strange as I was already paying for the watch now you’re trying to charge me more for a subscription, I knew it seems to be a mistake so I just glanced at the terms, it seemed normal just about linking them together so it made sense, I went ahead and clicked add subscription knowing that I would just call Vodafone and explain the situation if they tried to charge me more.

Anyway, it shows me a loading screen and I’m simply waiting for it to complete the link between my devices.

After a short while it went to a blank white screen and then... what’s this... I HAVE FAILED A CREDIT CHECK AND I HAVENT BEEN CHARGED?!?!?

So not only did it fail.. Vodafone has performed a credit check, without authorisation just to link it to my existing plan that I was already credit checked on?

Good one Vodafone, will be returning the watch and the device and leaving the network for good, this is the final straw, I’ve had nothing but trouble with you for 7 years and I’ve stuck by you, but you just cannot get anything right first time, EVER.

wondering if anyone else had this happen to them.

Hi everyone,

OP here, I can’t believe this issue is still effecting some people, I get emails almost daily about updates for this, it’s crazy to think it still hasn’t been sorted for everyone.

i can now finally say all of my issues are resolved and everything is working fine, you have to be persistent and contact the directors team, standard help from the tech team does not work.

Contact Nick Jeffries team and hopefully you will get I resolved like I did.

I know had that all the time.   Every flaming day.  I just got lucky yesterday with the guys I got.   Try being persistent and insist on speaking to Michael in Belfast Upgrade division. Nobody else.  Worth a try.

Will do don’t hurt to try does it

I know exactly how you feel , I’ve had enough now myself

when you get the new watch, check too that your contract is one of the contracts designed to work with the watch and ESim, or one of the older contracts that doesn't.  Otherwise you will continue to have problems.

Thanks for info but according to Vodafone my plan does support it but still can’t pair it ..7 months now and still no further

I have never experienced such shocking technical support from a company even worse than BT and that takes some beating.  I will never buy anything from them again

True and I thought they were good but my opinion of them is now zero

Hi ,

i have this issue , it worked initially and then just stopped a few days ago.

I have made several calls to 191 and been passed to tech support, They keep telling me it’s all set up perfectly and to unpair and re- pair my watch. (Which doesn’t help).

i am just going around in circles. It’s really frustrating!

it's a joke - i cancelled my contract in the end as others recommended.  Watch is on blue tooth and no cellular.

One of my colleagues phoned Vodafone to order an apple watch yesterday and he was told that they are aware that some existing (older) phone contracts dont work with the apple watch and they are in the process of updating these.

They said the update should be completed by end June 2019 and that he should not order an apple watch in the meantime as it simply would not work with cellular on his phone contract.

Maybe (finally) someone at vodafone has worked out what's what and they will get this fixed.

How on earth Apple could have allowed Vodafone UK to tarnish the Apple Watch brand in the way Vodafone have is what astonishes me.   Apple just didn't get any undertakings from Vodafone that the cellular Apple Watch would work on their UK network?

I can imagine how frustrating this must be @Barlowsaurus. I'd love the opportunity to get your watch and phone reconnected. As I'll need access to your account to do this, please contact us via Facebook at Vodafone UK, or Twitter using the handle @VodafoneUK. This will allow us to discuss the problem in more detail and get you reconnected.
