Default showing on credit file

Hi,

 

I have recently been applying for mortgages and have been advised to check my credit file - I have an old default from Vodafone showing on my account that I was unaware of.  This account was settled and closed nearly two years ago so I am suprised that a default would have shown on the account, especially for such as small sum (c. £30).  Who should I contact to have this looked into further?

Totally appreciate it's a small sum of money but if it's owed and Vodafone could not collect payment then they can and will add a default on a person's credit file which lasts 6 years. 

I would suggest ringing Vodafone or use Live Chat to raise your concerns and it let the Social Media Team here who read all posts catch up with your post and I'm sure that they will help you with this situation if they can.

Thanks for the info - no this account was settled a long time ago - I had called customer services and they advised me that nothing was outstanding and the account was not in default - so strange that it would be showing on the credit file as that!! It's actually for a previous account, I have recently returned to Vodafone and it wasn't flagged when I opened my account with them!

When you closed the Vodafone Contract were you sent a final bill by approximate 2 weeks which would have been paid by your Direct Debit  ?

Then a Sorry your Leaving letter and a £0 bill should have followed to yohr last registered UK address with Vodafone which confirms account closure. 

The primary mistake sone people make is to cancel their Direct Debit too fast.
