Emails not being sent by 3g dongle.

Not applicable
Hi there, I have a vodafone dongle on PAYG. It connects to the net fine, I can surf the net, and recieve emails, no problem at all, but it wiil not send emails, it shows them as sent in outlook (vista) , but no one is recieving them. I set my outgoing server to send.vodafone.net, which worked fine for a couple of months, but in the last few weeks, nobody is recieving the emails I am sending, yet when I connect at home on my home broadband it all works fine, and everybody recieves the emails I send from that. I have checked my security settings, which I don't think is causing a problem.
Please help me as I am having to send all my emails from my Blackberry at the moment wich is a nightmare!
It has a couple of times shown an error code 'RAS 633', but when this happens it won't connect to the net or anything.
Thanks pmac.

Not a reply - only to say that I am also now experiencing problems sending e-mails via Outlook Express using my K3565 dongle. I can receive and surf etc but e-mails are apparently sent but not received by anyone !! This has caused me a tremendous amount of problems let alone useage of my allowance for no return !!

ISP is Virgin / ntl.

I change Outgoing Mail Service to "send.vodafone.net"

Have Log-on using Secure Password Authentication UNTICKED.

My server requires authentication TICKED.

This used to work but did not last time when I was away from home.

send.vodafone.net has never worked reliably for me and even the mailserver I run at homes classes emails
I've sent cc to my home address as spam, that is if there is a delivery attempt at all.

I don't know what your other isps offer in the way of mailserver but if by chance they offer smtps
you could use that. Usual port is 465 and you specify ssl authentication. Otherwise vodafone offer
360.com which also accepts smtps.

If it helps, I set up a hotmail/livemail address (live.co.uk) and I use smtp.live.com as my SMTP outgoing in my Thunderbird email client. Most email clients use only one SMTP client even if it serves more than one email provider. My Livemail and my Gmail both use the livemail SMTP.

Sorry - messed up that last post, quoted wrong post, and edit didn't work. Should have read...

Don't need to use the Vodafone SMTP client just because you are using Vodafone broadband.

Thanks for your help. I put my dongle SIM card in my old Vodafone mobile and received the Verification code OK. I have been told to use the following :

Once you register you can use the below server settings:
  • Incoming server: imap.360.com
  • Outgoing server: smtp.360.com

    ......fingers crossed !!!

I have just been sent this from Vodafone help :

Just to let you know that there is no need of outgoing and incoming server when you're using modem on your broadband. It is connected through the browser.
If you're still facing problems, please contact our Technical Team on 08700 77 66 55 and they'll be able to help you further.

    ...now I am confused!

I would be confused. Someone obviousle doesn't know what email is or perhaps only knows about webmail in which case the
remote http client supplies both functions. That may not be a bad option if you only send/receive a few emails an don't worry
    about security.

If you have set up a 360.com account that should do fine.

Both of my internet hosting isps have smpts so can be used from vodafone mobile broadband without problem if required, but
my home mailserver also has same functionality so mostly I use that from modile broadband as it's the official server for my
    domains.

Thanks David - glad it wasn't only me being confused! Can I pick your brains a bit more?

My usual home server is Virgin / ntl. When I'm away and using Vodafone dongle I used to only change Outgoing Mail Server in my Outlook Express from "smtp.ntlworld.com" to "send.vodafone.net". This allowed me to receive e-mails and also send. Back home I would change it back. Do you reckon now that all I now need to do is change outgoing mail server to smtp.360.com ?

I was told to change incoming to imap.360.com but do I need to do this?

Thank for your patience and help David.
