As the title said, getting regular bad service in the late afternoon/evening. With a 76Meg service, I expect to get at least 90% of that, so ~68Meg. Is this something that can be 'tweaked to ensure I get a minimal standard?

I do not use Vodafone Broadband but When my speeds dipped I changed the Ethernet cable which helped.
Connecting wirelessly will degrade speeds.
I also split the frequencies in my router to 2.4ghz and 5ghz and chose the 2.4 which also helped.
Changing wireless channel can help too.
Sometimes a Router Reset can help.

"When your broadband is installed, we'll optimise your connection to ensure you get the best possible speed. However, doing this can sometimes cause some short drops in service or unexpectedly slow speeds for the first 10 days and in extreme cases up to 30 days. Please don’t turn off or reset your router during this time."

If this was a permanent dip, that would make sense, but as I get my fill 76Meg during the day and it only dips in late afternoon/evening, it does not. But thanks for your input.
