Number port not completed

Nick74
4: Newbie

Hi

I recently took out a new SIM only contract with Vodafone after having been with Tesco Mobile for some time. The number was supposed to port across to Vodafone yesterday (Friday). Around midday my Tesco SIM stopped working, however the number has not come across to Vodafone yet.

My Vodafone sim works, but still with the temporary number. I've tried live chat but they just tell me that the transfer is in progress and I have to wait, and cannot give me any idea of the timescale.

I have done quite a few PAC transfers between various networks over the years and this is the first time I've ever known the process take more than a couple of hours to complete. What's going on?

If Friday was your port day then it should have been completed by close of play.

So you're saying that outbound calls still show your Vodafone temporary number. How about incoming calls? Do you have to ring your VF temp number to reach you also or do incoming calls to your number work?

Either way, it sounds like a split port if things aren't how they should be.

Switch your phone off and on again if you haven't already to re-register to the network (sounds like dumb advice I know but this did fix a number port problem for me a few years ago so worth checking).

But if you still have no service then call 191 and ask to speak to the number port team. They'll chase things up in the background to get it closed off for you.

Hi @Nick74

As porting does not complete over a Weekend I would suggest to give this to the end of Monday and if things haven't settled as they should do then ask Customer Services to escalate this to their porting teams.

I hope this is resolved asap for you.

Yes the Vodafone sim is still working as before with calls and texts going to and from the temporary number as if nothings happened. The Tesco SIM is now completely dead. Calls to my original number get a recorded message saying that they've dialled an incorrect number. Texts to the original number either bounce back with an error message or go nowhere.

It's basically as if Tesco mobile have done their thing at their end but Vodafone have done nothing with the number they've received.

I left Vodafone two years ago because of endless problems and I'd really hoped things had improved since then. It seems not!

I've just phoned 191 and they called the porting team. Apparently they encountered an 'unexpected issue' when porting my number so have cancelled the porting process and restarted it. It should be sorted within 24 hours. We shall see!

Just gave Tesco a call to check everything is OK from their end. As far as they are concerned my number ported out successfully to Vodafone yesterday, my Tesco mobile account is now inactive,  and its now up to Vodafone to sort out any issues.

Well, good news. A few minutes ago I noticed I'd got a text out of the blue saying they were going to send data and MMS settings to my phone. That obviously signified the point my number changed over as I'm glad to say I'm now back on my correct number.

Thanks to those who responded. Although number ports don't normally take place at weekends I guess the number was already in Vodafone's possession as of yesterday and all they needed to was to apply it to my SIM correctly, which has now happened. :smileyhappy:

That's brilliant news! Glad you're all sorted 🙂

Hi Nick,

Im having a very similar issue at the minute and have now been let down 3 times. How did you contact vodafone and did you request to speak to the porting team? I requested this today and was denied on live chat.

Any advice would be appreciated

Many thanks
