I have a Sure Signal v3 which I've used almost happily for 2 years apart from it getting very hot. This morning it decided not to work. The power light is flashing red and the service light is a constant orange. I have turned the power off and on, I have pressed the reset button many times, I have re-started my BT Home Hub 3 (using BT Infinity), I have moved the ethernet cables from one port to another in the back of the home hub. The VSS has a designated ip address and the BT HH3 says it's connected however the lights on the VSS say no! The flashing red light and the constant orange service light is all it does.
Speed test: 43.37mbps download.
5.6 mbps upload.

I've managed to revive my VSS v3 by myself, so fingers crossed it will keep going.
I fixed it by removing the ethernet cable that links it to my BT HH3, pressing the reset button on the VSS, when the red light came back up I then inserted the ethernet cable again. The Internet light came on this time, and after about an hour, the service light came on white and the VSS appeared to be fully functioning and I have used it with my phone. I think the problem might be related to my BT HH3, as my printer often drops off the network and it is directly connected to the BT HH3 as is the VSS.

I have had problems with my second VSS. This is used in a Holiday Let Cottage. I run an ethernet cable to the cottage and into a Cisco 2950 Switch. It then connects to the VSS. I had to replace the switch because I had a fan failure. Could I get the VSS to run? No No No. Then I thought that it might be related to automatic speed/duplex sensing. I had the Port on the switch locked down to 100 Full Duplex. I reset the counters on the interface and watched it. Tons of traffic from Switch to VSS but nothing back. Set the port on the Switch to Auto/Auto. Reset the counters to zero. Bingo! Traffic both directions. Checked the lights on the VSS and it was doing what it was supposed to do. Auto sensing speed is well established. Auto duplex does not always work. and if one end is locked down it will often cause the other to go to 10 half duplex or simply fail all together. If you have the ability to select your speed and duplex options, this information may help. Good luck.
