Hi
Were tyhinking of getting one of these for a business user, and possibly other personal devices.
Can someone explain how this works in more detail apart from just using the wifi connection?
Also could we install/test it on one adsl line and move it to another without any issue?
Thanks

Hi Chi-Ltd
The sure signal uses your existing Internet connection to make a secure connection to the Vodafone network allowing voice calls and SMS. The sure signal needs to be connected to a router/switch via an Ethernet cable, it also has to be registered to an active vodafone number with additional users added to the user list.
The sure signal creates a secure VPN tunnel to transmit your call/sms data and requires an Internet connection speed of Download 4.58Mbps Upload more than 1.5Mbps latency is below 200ms and the below ports to be open on the connection;
Destination IP Addresses:
Ports and Protocols:
Testing/setting up one one connection and then moving shouldn't cause any issues but you will need to login to the vodafone account the sure signal was registered against and update the post code information even if its the same as the sure signal may detect an IP change and think its moved location.
Hope this helps
Thanks
John

Can you explain how?

Hi
Inside the Sure Signal are the complete workings of a mobile phone basestation. Additional functions are also included such as some of the RNC (Radio Network Controller) processing, which would normally reside at the mobile switching centre. The key functions are integrated onto a single chip. In addition to these highly integrated chips, a radio frontend and a highly accurate frequency reference crystal oscillator are also fitted.
The extra capabilities of a Sure Signal demand it to be self-installing and self-configuring. This requires considerable extra software which scans the environment to determine the available frequencies, power level and/or scrambling codes to be used. This is a continuous process to adapt to changing radio conditions.
Vodafones switch (MSC) communicates to the Sure Signal gateway in the same way as for other mobile calls. Therefore, all services including phone numbers, call diversion, voicemail etc. all operate in exactly the same way and appear the same to the end user.
The connection between the Sure Signal and the femtocell gateway uses secure IP encryption (IPsec), which avoids interception and there is also authentication of the Sure Signal itself to ensure it is a valid access point.
Thanks

You are correct, you can only connect devices that contain Vodafone SIM cards to a SureSignal. Even devices which connect to the Vodafone network via a virtual operator will not be able to connect.
