Suresignal 1 and 2 not working for 4 weeks

Hi

About 4 weeks ago my suresignal 1 that I have had for around 4 years just stopped working. It would not connect. I tried giving it a static IP and manually forwarding the ports which I had not needed to do before but that did not work. I also tried resetting the device following the procedure listed on the website but that did not work either. Nothing has changed with my internet connection or router, ive been with Pluset the whole time. I also have tried several different network cables and plugging them into different ports on the router. There is a link light with all cables on all ports, i dont think that is the issue. The suresignal (either of them) show up fine on the router so I can see they have been assigned an IP and they can be pinged on my local network.

My router is a Linksys X3000 running firmware v1.0.05 - the firmware was updated in the last couple of weeks but this was after the suresignal stopped working in an attempt to fix it.

I concluded that my old suresignal 1 - serial: 21222430452 was just broken, after all i'd had it a long time.

I cant get a new SureSignal 3 as my upload is 400k only, which is below the minimal. This new requirement seems a bit silly as the reason I have no phone signal is because I live in a rural area, where we also have poor upload/broadband.

I de-registered my sure signal 1.

I bought a de-registered Suresignal 2 from ebay - serial - 40123569010 and registered this. I got an SMS saying that it registered ok and all looks well with it on the website.

However it has the same problem, only the power light is on, it wont connect. I tried with it using DHCP, no port forwarding, tried with a static IP and port forwarding. Its not working. I have followed the reset procedure on various combinations above to give it a chance to connect.

With both the old and new one doing the same thing, I concluded it must be plusnet, i raised a ticket with them. They did say there were having issues with suresignal but after a week or so told me to reboot my router and it will be resolved - its not resolved, the suresignal 2 still only shows the power light.

I'm at a loss what to try next short of changing mobile provider as I cannot get any mobile signal tall in the house and havent for around a month now. Any suggestions most welcome.

Oh and heres a traceroute:

Hi @pbickerd

Thanks for the information provided.

There had been a move detected by the Vodafone Sure Signal, I’ve reset this.

If this still isn’t working, please let us know if there has been any change in the light sequence.

Cheers,

Laura

Hi Laura

Thanks so much for looking into this for me

I powered the sure signal off / on - i watched it. The power light comes on, then the other two lights flash in tandem for a period, then it goes back to being just a solid power light and nothing else

For reference, this is the suresignal 2 (40123569010). Can you see it connecting your side?

Hi @pbickerd

Please can you reset the Vodafone Sure Signal and reboot.

Let us know if this helps, as it has not made a connection to the network.

Cheers,

Laura

I followed the reset instructions shortly after your post and left it overnight. Still the same. Can you see when either of my devices last connected to you? I can add this info to the ticket I have with my ISP (Plusnet)

Is there anything else I can try? It looks to me like neither device has been able to connect to your servers for a good 4 weeks, if I had the actual date, maybe I can tie it back to something at the ISP or similar?

Hi @pbickerd

This last connected to our servers in 2013.

The only other thing I can suggest it trying it at a different location.

Thanks,

Sukhi

Can you check when my original one was last connected: 21222430452

It was working up until late Nov 14

Hi @pbickerd

That Sure Signal last made a connection at the beginning of December.

Thanks,

Wayne

Hi

I have had chance to do more testing on this

I have done the following:

Tested 2 different sure signals at my location - my 1 and my 2 - neither works

Tried 2 different routers at my location - suresignal doesnt work with either (Netgear DG834G and Linksys X3000)

Took the suresignal 2 to a friends house and tried it there - it doesnt work there either. Hes on Virgin Media fibre, I'm on Plusnet ADSL.

In addition to this, i fairly regularly keep getting texts that say the suresignal has moved and to update the postcode. This happens over and over. I have been in and set the postcode again to my current post code but still periodcally i get these texts

Given ive tried, two sure signals, two routers and two internet connections, something has to be amiss with my account there at Vodafone. I dont see what else it could be

I have one other location i can test at which i will do tomorrow but at this point, i dont think its a problem with anything at my end.

ive been without phone signal at home now since late November so i'm not sure how much longer I can continue as a vodafone customer. I work from home and have basically been uncontactable for months unless i stand at the bottom of my garden.
