Vodafone connect router DHCP settings

mattman
4: Newbie

I have posted this into off topic as I can not see any reference to Vodafone Home phone and Broadband.

I have install the router and all is working but there one thing that is missing from the setting of the VDSL router that being a function to turn off DHCP, I have for the pasted 10 year had my own network running at home with a fully working server that is my DHCP & DNS server but for the first time in history I have just sign up for 18 month and got a bloody router that has no function in the GUI settings pages to turn OFF the DHCP server. So for now I will have to wait for 18 months before I can change ISP. thanks vodafone tech team for missing this one. If there is anyone out there that can offer me a firmware update to give me the function to turn OFF DHCP then please post it.

I am seriously regretting choosing vodafone connect for my home broadband. I chose Vodafone thinking it was reputable name that would provide an excellent service, especially considering the price point.

The modem has left me infuriated and ready to throw it out the window! Is anyone else experiencing what seems to be the internal switch on the device just crashing? I can be using the device and when under load (not even that heavy) i.e quite a few devices using it, it just gives up. You have to wait 5-10mins while it reboots.

It's ok if I use the built in Wireless, but because it's an old house that signal doesn't travel far. So I have some homeplug units dotted around the house which of course all feedback to a single ethernet port. It's almost like this port just can't cope. I can replicate the issue but running a download of a few GB file on a single device that pushes the connection. It's almost gauranteed to just kill the box.

+ Slow DNS

Wonder if the CPU in the cheap modem just can't cope with the workload. If I could use my own I'd be far happer!

grrr 😞

By far the worst connection, equipment, and customer service I have ever experienced. Latency is off the charts. I can't do anything productive with this connection except get emails:

I am in complete agreement with you - The modem supplied by Vodafone for their broadband service is not fit for purpose.

It contains buggy firmware with hardcoded settings that cannot be changed by users.

It's wireless performance is dire

Under (more than 5-7 devices connected) the router starts to fail and does not retain connections

I am of the opinion that it is either poor choice of CPU, Memory, Operating System / Firmware that causes these issues.

I have wrote to Vodafone to make a formal complaint and am still waiting to hear back.

In the meantime, have connected an Apple Airport Extreme to the Vodafone router and disabled wireless and as many services as possible.

It is still slow at resolving DNS requests, but at least devices don't completely drop off without warning

please let me know how you get on with your formal complaint. I am not sure how to proceed. I've tried online chat with no success. + Vodafone have been trying for 3 months to get wifi calling working for me so I don't hold out much hope of anyone caring.

Seriously regretting chasing Vodafone for an install when it didn't go through the first time. I should have taken that as a sign!

Seeing as there are very few support threads on the Connect router, I assume we are in a minority of people that want to do something above basic internet access, but I can't understand why there are no controls for things like DNS, DHCP or allocation of a fixed IP on the LAN (I know you can go to one page and bind the mac address, then go to another to allocate the ports but why make it so difficult !?)

And while I'm on the subject of ports, why the wierd Port Settings like always having to have FTP server ports allocated to an IP address (go on, try and turn one off and it'll create another row for a different port that is enabled :Smiling: )

Then there's the poor LAN transfer and DNLA not working and to top it all we're stuck with the router because the username, password and PPP details are a "secret", so no option to use my award-winning Billion router to go back to normal.

I'm just hoping the Vodafone Connect router doesn't break in the 18 months we signed up for as it seems we'll be forced to buy another one for £130

My best hope is a firmware update but I'm not holding my breath (or "hacking" the router somehow - it's so poorly written there has to be a telnet port left open or something :Smiling: )

Hi BigBen

Hi guys any news?

I am also pissessed off with this crap.. Streaming services eg twitch are terrible, No dns customisation and secret user name and password .

It's just terrible.
I WANT TO USE MY ROUTER! NOT THIS "CONNECT" ROUTER

Any news

The workaround for the streaming issue is to have everything on wifi. They hope to release a new firmware before we all jump ship. Even if they do it's a crap router and I will be departing as soon as I can.

ditto, luckily i was only 7 days in when I found that the crap voda connect router wouldn't work with my internal wired network but works fine with my "old" Billion 8800 VDSL router. Also initially I had issue swith my Rasp Pi running as a DLNA server but I managed to get that working if I turned off all sharing and the in built DLNA. I've now moved to EE who promised me that I can use my own router if I like(due to be activated next week)

I too went down the route of trying to get the credentials to use my own router and was given all sorts of corporate rubbish as to why they wont tell me. ( it's a security risk..., you could just let your mate know them... ) . Voda seem to be the only company who wont allow use of own equipment so personally if you want anything other than a basic internet connection I would highly recommend avoiding Vodafone for your Fibre broadband.
Shame really that such a large company seem so anti customer focused in this respect.
