Vodafone connect router DHCP settings

I have posted this into off topic as I can not see any reference to Vodafone Home phone and Broadband.

I have install the router and all is working but there one thing that is missing from the setting of the VDSL router that being a function to turn off DHCP, I have for the pasted 10 year had my own network running at home with a fully working server that is my DHCP & DNS server but for the first time in history I have just sign up for 18 month and got a bloody router that has no function in the GUI settings pages to turn OFF the DHCP server. So for now I will have to wait for 18 months before I can change ISP. thanks vodafone tech team for missing this one. If there is anyone out there that can offer me a firmware update to give me the function to turn OFF DHCP then please post it.

Nope. Consumer. And they do give them out, seems to be a case of get through to the helpful advisor.

Great news Lemaru! If you can stretch to £175 Currys outlet on ebay is doing my netgear x4s for that price I paid well over that!

So are we now finally able to get the username and password?

As i am i power user never used isp routers/modem i have my owb UTM which i use to protect my network at home so before i order i would want to know i can get these before i switch from mycurrent provider

Yes you can get the login details - though as you can tell from the discussions, it can take some persistence.  I was lucky and was given them on only the second attempt.

Hopefully someone at Vodafone will read this thread and spread the message to the rest of the support staff.  In reality, the only people who know enough to ask for their network login credentials are pretty much guaranteed to know that they will need to support themselves, and will know what to do with the credentials when they have them - so I'm not sure why it's a problem in the first place.

And no - we're not business users (or at least I'm not).

Static IP is the only other thing I'd like from my home broadband, but I can live with dynamic DNS, and send mail out through sendgrid, which is free for anything other than mass mailings. (I couldn't find any UK Vodafone SMTP relay).

I've just been through the pain of the router not working properly. For me it was a complete failure of internet over the LAN ports along with WiFi dropouts. I'd been through L1 support and got to L2, it took 4 days to get there.

I'd seen this thread so when L2 called me back, I basically said I'll get my own router, just give me the password, I know what I'm doing as I've done this before, I'll take responsibility from the connection in my home after my ADSL socket and I'll leave you alone for 17 months. On hold for 30 seconds to get manager approval, comes back confirms username, which I already got from the XML dump and got my 8 digit upper/lower alpha password, which you can only get from them.

Massive kudos to Jeevez for going through the process and showing it all working. As I didn't want to wait for any delivery from buying on line, I left home, went to PC World and got a Netgear D7000, setup similar to Jeevez and I was up and running in a few minutes.

Where does this leave everyone else reading this? If you haven't joined yet, then take note of the experiences in this thread. The supplied Huawei modem/router is good on paper, but if you will be plugging in more than 4 devices over ethernet and/or have more than half a dozen devices on wifi then it’s not going to work. Switches are not a supported configuration, nor is anything else remotely complex apart from the basic of basic with light use.

If you’ve already joined and know what you’re doing, that means you’re happy configuring a modem/router, then call CS and progress the ticket to get through to L2 support, and once you’re there confidently announce that you want to run with your own router configuration and request the username and password to do so. But note that you will get zero support from Vodafone from that point onwards unless you can prove there is a line fault, but you’ll have a decent IP connection on what is a pretty good network.

There shouldn't be any problems with support, if you need to, you can reconnect the VF router temporarily.

if you are looking for free dynamic DNS then take a look at http://www.duckdns.org this is what I use and has been great for years now.

So I have my credentials but after having my VF router firmware downgraded it was bac to being stable and didnt need a couple of daily restarts so thought I would try and stick it out a while......

Now it appears they have again updated the firmware and yet again I have to restart the router daily otherwise I cant cast from one device to another or access my NAS.

So I am router shopping, I can get the TP-Link Archer VR900 for 68quid or the Nighthawk D7000 for 100 quid. Which do people recommend and why?

Cheers chaps

They sound like good prices.

I can vouch for the TP-Link - mine has been rock solid, fast, configurable, and with excellent wi-fi coverage.  Guaranteed to work with Vodafone (choose the BT profile, and you'll be connected in less than a minute after turning it on 🙂 ).

I suspect that the Nighthawk will be similar of course - so this probably doesn't help!
