Vodafone connect router DHCP settings

mattman
4: Newbie

I have posted this into off topic as I can not see any reference to Vodafone Home phone and Broadband.

I have install the router and all is working but there one thing that is missing from the setting of the VDSL router that being a function to turn off DHCP, I have for the pasted 10 year had my own network running at home with a fully working server that is my DHCP & DNS server but for the first time in history I have just sign up for 18 month and got a bloody router that has no function in the GUI settings pages to turn OFF the DHCP server. So for now I will have to wait for 18 months before I can change ISP. thanks vodafone tech team for missing this one. If there is anyone out there that can offer me a firmware update to give me the function to turn OFF DHCP then please post it.

@Carly

Thank you for your post.

People are not complaining about the way the routers are set up.

They would just like to be told the connection details so that they can use their own. No one expects support for a router of their own choice.

It is hard to understand why Vodafone wants to keep these details secret. It just gives Vodafone broadband a bad name on this and other forums. I suspect that the users who want to use their own equipment are also a bit more articulate which does not help the Vodafone ambition to build up the number of users.

All the leading ISPs make these details available.

It would be nice if Vodafone would change their policy to be like them.

Carly's pathetic reply just goes to show that Vodafone barely even understand our concerns.

We can assume that Vodafone are no longer giving out Broadband usernames and passwords.

Ramble:

Vodafone are new to providing fixed line broadband and have adopted a model whereby they only want their equipment attached to their network, this gives easy control and monitoring of Customer-Premises Equipment which makes it easier for admin thus requiring less resource. That is the model they have chosen that enables their low price point.

It's big learning curve for all as Vodafone too, they haven't done this before and I imagine a lot of the broadband team will be new to this, either internal transfers or new hires, with a little luck they will have poached a few people from rivals also, I'm not on about the Customer Service team here, who are just following what they are told.

I'm sure Vodafone are looking at this especially as Carly has appeared, although I imagine it will take some time for any change of strategy which will be a more of a long-term thing. In the short term, it is what it is. The main issue here is those of you who were told by CS that you would get your login details and you didn't, in which case you are locked in to your contract. You won't get your login details now, you can only hope the policy will change in the future. If you’re locked in and super hacked-off then escalate to Vodafone and beyond.

I was lucky enough to get my details when they were giving them out and the service on the whole is actually very good and I’m impressed with the network overall.

/Ramble

In summary, if you don't want to use their router or it doesn't work for you, then go elsewhere before signing up or within your cooling-off period, it's an open market. Most of us here no doubt were brought in by the low price point rather than Vodafone's track record in the fixed broadband market.

Again, just my 2 cents.

Thanks for making me aware.

As we're not able to access broadband accounts, we can only advise what the Broadband team communicate to us.

Vodafone don't support third party routers, the Broadband team are aware of the concerns people are facing. At present, we're unable to provide any further information on this.

If you wish to discuss this with the team directly, please contact them via Live Chat.

Sorry Carla but as you and the whole public know, Vodafone has the worst customer service of all ISP'S
And they are you going to laps on there commitment of sorting out bills where I am owed £55 for an extra connect router??
I've already sent back 2!
Anyway enough about another customer's problems, have you ever tried live chat.
This is how i would explain it☺ 😕 😣 😫 😢 😤 😬 😬😬.
I was personally on it and lost 40 mins of my life during kid's homework and dinner.
Passed through 3 depts and back to the first one.
It's not your fault or your fellow employees....it's your employer who has flung you in the firing line while they make wads of cash because of the great offer!!
They haven't researched deep enough into ISP customer service and train ppl to a higher degree as that would cost more.
I've been on the internet since the 1990's when dial up was king 😂😂😂
So been there and done it the this type of service. That's why I never blame you guy's, it's the ones making the money and making you lot take the flak.
I agree with the ppl on this forum that if your happy with the product, cause I can't fault price and speed then it's the best out there for others to follow.
Bit long winded I know so I'll shut up noo.

@Carly

I am still watching this thread even though I canceled my installation before the date, even though you talk about vodafone not supporting 3rd party equipment most people who want to change know enough not to expect that but if they say don't support 3rd part equipment on their network that's a different matter.

In my case I was assured by the telephone sales clerk that I could have the detail to enable the use of my own router - I even asked him twice, The pile of junk I have been issued with has a mind of it's own and if not used for 24 hours it disconnects itself from the exchange equipment and refuses to respond to pings. I am still within my 30 days cooling off period so will probably cancel the whole sorry mess next week. I know VF people read these post so I it will be interesting to see if anyone has the courage to get in touch.

I was all for leaving, the problem - you don't get your £50 connection charge back if you decide to leave within the first 30 days.

The "try our network, if you don't like it you can leave" is a little misleading as you will be £50 out of pocket if you decide to move on.

£50 I know is pocket change to many, but I've decided to stay the 18 months.

I'm unhappy about not being able to use my own equipment. I wrote a complaint and someone from Vodafone has been trying to get in touch with me for a couple of days now - he seems to call when I'm driving and won't leave a number I can call him back on, but I am determined to speak with him and I'm determined to get my PPoE username/password.

@Soofla.

You could make the point that they sell Sim only phone contracts. The Sim  will work in any compatible phone. You just want the broadband equivalent!

@ Carly - surely you have the common sense to click in a link to make sure it works before you give it out?? The chat URL hasn't worked for at least a week now and I've told two of your other colleagues the same. Tell your manager to get this fixed or else stop giving out this broken link!

Perhaps if Vodafone could explain to people WHY they won't give out PPPoE details, we might be more understanding. However, to say that "Our technical team aren't competent" isn't a good enough reason.

Get one of the broadband level two technical support team to reply to this thread with a TECHNICAL explanation please!

No more "click on this chat link" - that is a message to fob us off.

@ Soofla, I like your determination. Let me know if you get anywhere. I am close to leaving....
