Is there an explanation for iPhone 6 screens cracking without having been dropped or experiencing any impact?
Was just holding the phone in my hand and it cracked!?!?!

I don't think that Trading Standard will be interested in your problem with the cracked screen. Vodafone do make it cleat that they only offer a 12 month warranty on apple products and really they can charge whatever they like for a repair, the fact that it is more expensive than Apple's charge is just down to marketing forces.
Have you actually given Vodafone the authorisation to replace the screen?
The fact that you connections have been a bit erratic for a couple of days can not have anything to do with you refusing to pay for a repair, there is no a "little man" sitting at Vodafone HQ pulling your plugs.

Don't know how to deal with this then - i'm paying out and not getting the service and tied into a contract - are Vodafone a law to themselves?

Leaving aside the matter of your eratic connections the matter of the screen cracking is not something that I think Vodafone will back down on.
As I posted earlier the best solution would be an Apple store but if you have already had the repair done I think it is fait accompli and will need to be put down to experience.

I'll persevere then thanks - not going to be bullied into paying out for something that wasn't my fault! The phone was already being returned due to software issues, reported on a Friday and then cracked on the Saturday before it was scheduled to be picked up on the Tuesday. I'll await the call of the manager and stand my ground - very disappointing all round.

Good luck with your stand.
It will be interesting to hear the outcome.
The problem that Vodafone would face if they agreed to replace cracked screen FOC is that anyone could damage their phone by cracking the screen and say it cracked on its own.
Report back with the outcome.

I will let you know how I get on. I see your point but feel frustrated by the issue having been totally honest

Has the repair actually been carried out?

No - the phone has been exchanged for another one as the speaker wasn't originally working anyway - that's the whole reason it was being exchanged and in between reporting the fault and having the phone collected by DPD the screen cracked. I called Vodafone and reported it straight away and they noted it on the account and told me to tell the courier, which I did. They then billed me for the cracked screen - despite the fact that there was already a fault with the speaker on the phone.

I don't think 'market forces' comes into it, just pure greed!
Forget Vodafone, take the phone to an Apple outlet and let them sort it out, you'll get absoluteley nowhere otherwise.

Unfortunately you have no way of convincing Vodafone that the crack was not your fault, whereas Apple take a more understanding view on this sort of damage.
There certainly have been cases where screen have cracked even when not being held and Apple are are of the problem.
Have you now agreed to the screen being replaced?
