Switch BT>Voda

I signed up for Voda fibre ( already connected to the house - currently a BT customer )

I was given an activation date, which passed and after 30 days was given a credit to my account.

I enquired when I would be live, and was told it was in fact live now, although my BT was still working.

The agent told me, because I had been given a new number by Voda, it was up to me to cancel the BT line, is this correct, I thought everything would be handled by Voda ?

When I connect the router I get a solid white light, but no internet connection. Is this because it’s picking up the BT signal but can’t connect to it ?

I’m a bit loath to cancel BT - I never received confirmation of activation from Voda, so I’m not at all sure I’m connected.

Was that a Vodafone agent?

It is only on FTTC to FTTC that the gaining ISP cancels the previous contact. There are no Ofcom regulations around other forms of broadband swaps so sometimes they might but not always, and by not porting the number it's less likely as you are just starting a contract with the new ISP.

If you are unable to connect to the web via the Vodafone router, something is wrong.

Is it possible to have two broadband services on the same fibre? I'm not really sure.

Unfortunately you will need to just keep chasing Vodafone until you get a resolution, but as Vodafone seem unable to give consistent answers when there is a problem it won't be easy.

Thanks Jayach, VF engineers are ringing me back.

seems like I’m connected to two devices - old BT one ( working ) and VF ( not working )

I didn’t have the option of retaining my number - I’m FTTP

Sorry typo - 2 services

Being on FTTP, shouldn't preclude porting your number, it should be just like porting on VoIP.

Although that can be problematic, depending on the suppliers.

If you're getting it through city fiber then you'll get the 900mb, much better than virgin.

Through openreach I'm not so sure.

Hmm, I suspect another scammer.

For information, I've ported from Vodafone FTTC to BT FTTP, and transferred the number.  And BT handled the cancelling of the Vodafone broadband.

I still have my Vodafone mobile though, as it's still in contract, and even with the recent price rise I've not seen an offer that undercuts it.  There's one that comes close, but that's only for 4G, and as I can get 70Mbps (but it's not consistent) inside the house on 5G, VF would still win.

*While I may have ported the landline, I don't intend on using it!
