Landline phone with own router on FTTP

Just got FTTP and everything is working fine off the VF router. Phone lines are plugged into the VF router, VF router's WiFi is switched off. 3rd party Mesh has been switched to Bridge mode and plugged into the VF's ethernet port.

However I am shocked at how feature poor the VF router is. e.g. There are no Parental controls at all. I know I can get rid of the VF router and plug my own Mesh router into the Openreach ONT, but what about the Landline.

Are there any 3rd party routers in the market that have a telephone socket at the back to allow the home phone to be plugged in?

@theopsmgr

I think the wording is out of date (despite that being the latest T&C's)

Originally digital voice was only on Full Fibres services, so the wording would be correct.

However when digital voice become the norm for FTTC as well the wording became out of date, but they have probably not updated it since then.

Do let us know how your complaint gets on.

still irritates me that they seem to think that "security by obscurity" is a good strategy.

If they think that end-users having their own SIP username & passwords represents a threat vector that does not inspire me with confidence regarding the security and integrity of their network. Perhaps they should plug their vulnerabilities instead of penalising their customers?

I think for the benefit of keeping this thread on topic that any detailed replies are sent directly to @theopsmgr  otherwise this already long thread will become cluttered.

or is that this already cluttered thread will become longer 🤔

Did anyone having issues actually get them sorted? To this day I can receive calls, but most outgoing calls fail.

Yes, works for me, opnSense router + HT801 ATA. Check carefully details in this thread and the GitHub page.

I have found its very sensitive to outgoing port being locked to 5065 (outbound static NAT) and having the WAN IP addresses correctly configured on the ATA.

Static IP address helped a lot for my setup but it was never totally reliable…

Edit: CityFibre FTTH in case it makes a difference.
