Hi ,
Over the last couple of months my v new Samsung S20 FE has no signal / service for most of the day. I've been on chat with voda support , followed instructions , reset phone , new sim etc etc. Voda says not their fault.
Phone has been to samsung repair and come back - still same issue. Samsung say its vodas fault.
If I travel to another town like Norwich - phone works fine.
What can I do? I dont even care if I only get 2G - i need the 2FA txt messages badly. wifi calling doesn't work as it needs to be a voda branded phone/firmware.
Ironically its my first phone contract for over 10 years - so regret getting it. Previous I'd have just swapped provider.

Hey @peterpan288 Let's see if we can get to the bottom of the issues your experiencing with your connection. From what you've advised, you may have already tried some of the steps outlined in our Initial Checks. If you could try these again, along with any you haven't currently completed and if they don't resolve your issues, complete the template at the bottom and post it here.

Thanks @Mark I've replied using the Template.
1) Does the issue happen in just one location? If so, how far do you have to travel to regain service?
Yes , one location as far as I can tell. I have to travel several miles. For example in Norwich city centre I have no issues.
2) What is the full postcode (e.g. ST1 1AA) of where the issue occurs? If you don't want this showing on the Community, add it to your profile here.
Added to profile.
3) Does the issue occur if you try your SIM card in a different phone?
No.,
4) What errors are seen or heard when the issue occurs?
Selected Network (voda UK) is unavilable.
Emergency calls only
5) Does this happen on 2G, 3G, 4G or all?]
all
6) When did you first notice this issue?
7) Is the issue permanent or intermittent? If intermittent, are there certain times of the day when it occurs?
mainly permanent - once a week i might have a signal for 10mins.

@peterpan288 Thank you for the information. I've checked the postcode you've provided and the coverage for 2G - 4G is good indoors and outdoors, there is no 5G coverage at the moment. I've also checked the mast you connect to (No. 39653) and whilst you're near an area of patchy signal which may increase the amount of traffic through the site, there is no current downtime or maintenance that would be affecting your services. You're able to check for maintenance anytime on our Network Status Checker here.
As you've advised in the template that when you try your SIM in another phone this works for you, it leads me to believe the issue lies with the phone itself. Can I take the make and model from you please? 🙂

@peterpan288 I've had a Google and found this on a Samsung forum which may help:
You could also try changing the Network Mode in the phone to specifically 2G then back to LTE/2G/3G (auto connect) to see if this pulls the phone out of Emergency mode. Please click here for our device guide on how to do this. If you've purchased the phone through Vodafone and it's within warranty we'd be able to send it off for a repair free of charge through our Social Media team here, and they may be able to resolve the issue for you. Please let us know how you get on 🙂

Hi ,
Thanks for the reply @Beth
The emergency call didn't work as I dont get a notification about emergency calls. It just says it on the top left.
I have many bars of signal but I think these are other networks not voda.
As voda is turning off 3G has this been the cause of my problem?
I've also messed about with the network mode - this has some strange results. In Lowestoft , NR33 where I live and have most of the problems. I've gone from 10-20mins of service a day - to a couple of hours on 2G. So at least I get the odd txt msg here and there. 2G does connect sometimes according to the status bar at the top of phone screen. But it still unusable for most of the day - If I do get a call to come through - it drops after 20seconds
I've tried toggle the mode, reset network settings , reboot and none make any difference.
In Norwich City centre where I go for work - I get full 4G no worries - even in a basement. However, if I put my phone deselect calls over 4G LE - I cannot actually make a call. The phone tries to ring , but its just silent.
The same thing happens in 2G only network mode.
As prev mentioned Samsung have repaired phone and say there is nothing wrong with it. I didn't buy it from voda direct - but affordable mobiles.
As its a voda problem can I get out of my contract or pay it off at reduced rate?
WIll offcom help me?

I'm sorry to hear you're still struggling to connect to our network @peterpan288. As we've only begun the start of our 3G retirement in the last couple of days and are starting this in the Plymouth and Basingstoke areas, this won't be the cause of the problems you're experiencing. If you're able to connect in the location you've provided using a different phone, this would indicate there is no problem with the network connection, as you'd be unable to connect using any phone. I can also see you've also mentioned you have difficulty connecting in Norwich using the same handset. As this is the common factor in all your failed connections, it does sound like a fault with your phone is at the root of your issues.
If this is still under warranty, you may be able to get this looked at and any faults fixed free of charge. As it was brought through a 3rd party, the phone would have been supplied by them and you'd need to contact them directly to discuss this.

Phone has just come back from repair at Samsung again. This is the second repair. No faults found again.
Another sim card from another provider in the phone and it all works fine.
So its just this specific phone on vodafone where the problem lies.
Samsung wont refund.
Voda wont let me cancel.
